Re: 66 slammed hearse

I was thinking about my brake issues today, and have a question. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but you guys and gals are always good to ask. I have a ccp prop valve that is supposed to be for disc/drum, and I have another that is for disc/disc. The disc drum is on the truck, unless of coarse I installed the wrong one. Would that give me a soft pedal with a disc/disc prop valve and disc/drum on the truck? I am guessing i'm right? I belive that a disc/disc is 2 psi on both sides and a disc/drum is 2 psi and 10 psi?

Re: 66 slammed hearse

If you have disc/drum brakes on the truck, and accidentally have the disc/disc combination valve installed, spongy brakes would likely result. Without the 10 psi valve the return springs will overcome system pressure and increase initial clearance in the drum brakes.

I thought that might be the problem. I will try the other valve and give an update.....

Re: 66 slammed hearse

So does anyone wanna guess how halloween went for ol' kd?
Well it all started ok, went to the shop, fired up the hearse and dropped her in gear, down the highway we tore! open headers cracklin in the cool autum air, cruizin down the road at an ear splitting 70 mph. So I drivin, thinking how much fun the evenings going to be, when BBBBBLLLLLAAAAAAA! the ol' burb just dies! no poppin, no wierd noises, just dead like you turned the key off. So I coast to the side of the road, scatchin my head in confusion. I hit the key and the ol' girl fires right up, revs clean and smooth, just like she always has. Back into gear we go, I lay the coal to her and away we go, For about a mile, then you guessed it, dead! And once again coast to the side, hit the key and she roars to life. I pop the hood and checked simple things like if the distributer has came loose, nope good and tight, coils still mounted, wires all intact, nothings loose. So I jump back in and mash the throttle down. Now she is not happy about running, cough, sputter, chocking, pucking fire, popping, dieing, stumbling, you name it, she did it. Didnt matter if you held it to the floor or half throttle. This goes on all the way to the house, about 13 miles from the shop. It finally dies for the last time, wont restart. So I go get my power dodge and throw the jumper cables to it. nothing! check, recheck, reset timing, still nothing. Like the battery isnt even there. Hard to crank, cranks like way out of time, but turning the distributer makes no differance either way. I'm at a loss, I'm out of ideas. The way it acted, i'm thinking ignition. any ideas guys?

Re: 66 slammed hearse

is it 2 diffeent problems?

the first sounds like something wrong with the carb/fuel/system.
wehad a similar problem once with a fuel sock in the tank of a 77 chev truck, whenever it pulled fuel under power, it would die, then start just fine.

the last problem sounds likewhat was wrong with my elcamino, I thought the timing chain was broken, , had the same symptoms you mentioned in that last sentance, all it turned out to be was a starter that was partilly frozen up, there was a broken contact inside that was intermittently freezing up the system.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

Reminds me of a broken timing chain....hope not; means bent valves and generally screwed up engine if so.
