Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

^^ Thanks! The H2 wheels, in fact, require spacers on the rear to clear the Dana60 hubs. Well the wheels actually don't, but the little plastic hubcaps require them.

I've heard about the spacers. But, if I don't go overboard, the 17" version of the wheels I posted earlier are rather affordable & shouldn't have any trouble clearing the hubs (I hope).

I think there is a slight difference in the hub size between the older trucks & newer. Since the H2 & your 2001 HD probably have the same axle, it would stand to reason that they would fit.

I know the hub on my Dana 60 floater rear sticks too far out for the cap to seat and get threaded onto the lugnuts

To the best of my knowledge, the Dana 60 full floater hubs stick out further than the GM corporate 14 bolt full floater.

If you have the Dana 60, I would highly recommend measuring before you buy wheels just to discover the caps don't clear.

If you look at the pictures, I have both sets of these hub caps. I learned the hard way that the newer gold and black caps don't clear my Dana 60. I believe they started putting the GM corporate 14 bolt on trucks in the gold and black hub cap era.

So I had to spend considerably more for the period correct caps with the blue bow tie - I like them but they are harder to find and usually cost much more unless you get lucky and find a good bargain.

In my experience, the Dana 60 full floater is a challenge when it comes to fitting caps, whether they're factory hub caps or center caps that come with aftermarket wheels.

Here is a pic of my original paint 70 Longhorn still sitting on split rims. The only after market rim I'd put on it are period correct aluminum slots. I haven't found a set yet....

I went with a 16 inch wheel and 265/75 tire to get rid of the 16.5 wheels

I have 2002 Chevy Silverado wheels with 265/75R16 tires. I purchased the conversion lug nuts to be able to use the center caps. Name: IMG_1209.jpg

That's some good info. I should measure before assuming my favorite aftermarket wheel caps won't fit.

Now that I look at my comment, I guess that sounded kind of stupid... After all, I was the one who assumed that if a hubcap fit one 8lug GM truck then it must fit mine too - and I was wrong - they don't all fit.

I dunno... mine are 17s and they need a spacer. All the power to you if you can avoid it! If you have a different rear end (mine's the D60) then you'll have a different outcome.

It is still a good idea to measure than to just assume.

I'm pretty sure my truck didn't get any special rear axle. I probably have the "big hub" D60.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

The 8 lug, H2 Hummer wheel will fit the 8 lug DANA 60, Eaton and 14 bolt corporate axle.
The problem is that most hub covers will not fit over the DANA hub.
Davepl spaced the H2 wheel out on the rears, so he could use the late style GMC covers and clear the hub.

When I picked up my H2 wheels, I bolted them directly to the DANA and spaced the Hummer caps out on the rears. I have since found a good set of GMC covers, but haven't gotten around to either making cover spacers or spacing the wheel out.

2nd picture shows front wheel with standard H2 cover mounting and 3rd with spacer needed to clear DANA hub.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I've posted several times earlier in this thread but just realized I hadn't posted a picture of the H2 wheels actually installed on my truck.

Just to clarify regarding the recent comments about needing spacers with the H2s on the Dana 60. That's true. However, my tuck has an Eaton axle and did not require spacers to use the 2001-2007 Chey/GMC caps on the rear.

Incidentally, I still prefer the H2s on my truck. Perhaps, it's the color contrast of white wheels and maroon paint or the fact I'd looked at the white wheels for 48 years.

DAMN, that's a nice looking truck! Is that the original paint color (the blue)? I won't be changing mine from Hugger Orange, but I'm curious.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I suppose a quick internet search would be in order so we could each identify which axle we have.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

If I have a Dana 60 8 lug rear on a 2 wheel drive C20.... is it safe to use 1.5 inch thick wheel spacers ( the kind that bolt to the hub and have their own lugs/studs)? i have 14.5 mil on the front and 1/2 lugs on the rear and would like to match them up plus be able to mount hub caps or center caps

I'm not sure of the safety aspect, but there's no way you should need 1.5 inch spacers to gain adequate clearance to use the late model factory caps. Of course the thickness needed will be somewhat variable depending on the thickness of the wheel mounting flange (not sure that's the correct term).

Perhaps davepl can provide further info on what he used with his H2 wheels.
