Re: John's Project

Thanks guys. Yeah Holly didn't want anything bigger than the Trailblazer. She really doesn't like driving my 03 Sierra 1500HD 4x4 Crew Cab. So when we started looking she really liked the look of the SS, but the price really was a big factor. When this one was so cheap we couldn't pass it up. We were actually going to wait until after the first of the year. Glad we didn't now.

Thats the new M series. Just came out this year, I got it mixed up with the non-M, as it has a 4.4l. The regular X5 has a N/A 4.8l.

You can get what I call the "I want a BMW" base package with the I6 (260hp) for 47,500. The X5 is compareable in size to a Tahoe or expidition. If you want something smaller, get the X3 (trailblazer/explorer). If you need something even smaller the X1 will here as a 2011 model next year. I guess its like a equniox, I havent seen one of these yet.

Re: John's Project

Nothing against owning an affordable american made vehicle but After owning a late model M3 coupe,,Nothing else compares. Its not just the power but the ride, handling and leather interior. Its a diff. animal. The Germans wrap the entire interior in hide, not just the seats and door inserts.I mean the entire dash, pillar mouldings etc. On the down side,,they start to rattle and scweek after a few yrs. just like everything else. OK,back on topic.

The PO painted the bowtie on the grille. I'm looking for a chrome one to replace it. They also removed the bowtie off the back gate, and the "Trailblazer" emblem. They also installed a K&N air filter in the stock air box, and changed out the muffler. Other than that she's all stock. It's a 2WD. We really weren't looking for the loaded out 3SS or an AWD. We really liked the cloth interior, just had to have the sunroof, and a 2WD. The AWD would have been nice I guess, but I've heard they tend to have more problems with the tranny if you do any mods to them.

About like it was before. Since I took the old one out, I worked all last week. Then this week my days off I'm helping my dad wire a house. He broke his foot a couple weeks ago, and needless to say I'm the worker while he sits on the ground supervising.

Oh your a funny guy. Tell a guy something, and he never lets you live it down.

We don't get enought contractor work to offset the benefit of a BBQ. Were more if the DIY store. It might be something to consider next spring though. It will be our 25th year. We could have a customer appreciation/anniversary BBQ all in one.

I'll have to try and put one together in the spring. That does sound like a good idea, but everyone will be required to make a purchase from the store.

Re: John's Project

Well I finally have some updates. Travis will be happy too because the update includes pics.

I got around to getting the engine painted today. I decided to go with Chevy Orange. I figured it would look good in the black engine bay.

I don't have any pics of the engine bay. I thought I did, but I'll get some taken before the engine goes in.

Here are the shots of the engine in the painting process. I used Rust-O-Leum engine primer, and paint.

Here is the finished shot. I think it turned out really good. I'm planning on painting the brackets for the Alternator, and AC black. The headers will be ceramic coated.

Re: John's Project

Still debating on the air cleaner. I kind of like the ball milled aluminum one to match the valve covers, but I also like a the black round one with Chevrolet around the front edge. I kind of think the black one would help break up the aluminum.

Here are the pics of the ones I'm looking at.
