Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Thanks Nick! It's great to be able to make progress without lifting a finger

....although getting that thing out and into your truck was like work

I find it funny how some old, crusty parts can draw a crowd

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

on a side note I like the random mountain bike hanging in middair in the second pic

I had the biggest feeling that the first random comment wouldn't be about the forklift, my makeshift pallet table or anything else in the shop. I just knew someone would comment on that bike first! Its on a bicycle/garage storage thingy bolted to the garage door track. Just as it looks, its meant to keep a nice bike safe. Everyone asks about that bike!

It looks like the one they installed on This Old House today

BMERDOC, how to they hang that so far up? It isn't a pulley system?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

lmao! I guess I just find the uncommone things more entertaining to the mind I do like the nice forklift much newer than our two. the pallet table is ingenious everything is better at a bench height

So, did you go ahead and do the caster mod while it's apart?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Gotta be a cool boss to let 5 guys offload the front end off an old pickup

Let them BMW owners wait their turn dad gumit. What, $80/hr labor rates? I speak from experience.. Lol.

07, E90 6 speed, Sport Premium, Cold Weather, Sp Graphite / Dakota. Worst thing I have ever bought. I lost my BUTT on that car.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

I wouldn't say employee, more like Technical Advisor, Stylin' Consultant and a buddy lookin to help out a friend with common interests.

You can ask the guys who attended the Get Together, I have a cool boss. Being British, he is overjoyed with the old American Iron he didn't get to grow up with.

As far as the caster mod goes...no, I didn't touch it. There is still some debate on the LCAs. No feedback yet but its been proven that it works.

Back to you Jonathan

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

I'm back and missed all the fun

I actually have cupped lowers for bags coming (at some point-should have been here alreadydelays) and will have nick....the resident alignment guru....see what he can do on alignment first before any major mods...

And as mentioned....he's not an employee . Just a good friend, a fellow truck nut, and a great mechanic.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Wasn't giving you a hard time (or him) .. just sayin. It's not every day you'd see the front member of an old pickup truck on a lift in a BMW shop. That's all..

I didn't take it bad at all...sorry if anything in my response came off that way. It's tough to joke online and have your inflection come through

Got the front clip repairs sanded and the cups painted first coat. Painting black and red over then will attempt to match the rest of the patina.

Sprayed the undercoating under the core support, splash guard, and inside the inners. Once that dries I'll paint it satin.

It's far from perfect but neither is the truck. But it's solid now and once final painted I think it will look good.

Nope. I didn't take offense to it either. As a matter of fact your compliment got passed along and I threw in a pat on the back for good measure.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Got my sway bar and brackets painted....drying rack is a pile of parts

Front clip is okay but I'm going to do another skim coat of filler on the fender cups because I'm not happy with them. Bare in mind the red will be scuffed back to dull and it's a very close match once I do that. Not perfect butbetter than just black or orange fluorescent paint with holes

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Also picked up a toolbox for the bed today. Wanted a vintage cooler but when I placed a clist wtb ad I was offered this box. It's around an expensive box new and I got it for $75. It's got good patina too and will be able to be bolted down and locked. I will keep a small cooler in half for shows and spare parts and tools in the other side.
