Re: Previous owner '68
Sprayed the windings with insulating spray and assembled the alternator.

Re: Previous owner '68
Thanks Zicc.
I received the valve cover decals today. If I have vinyl decals (mylar, whatever...) and they don't have an application layer over them I use low-tack shelving paper in the clear flavor. It helps keep everything lined up and makes installation easier.

Re: Previous owner '68
And the finished valve covers. I'll probably shoot some clear over these eventually.

Re: Previous owner '68
So I got a rebuilt torque converter slapped on the transmission. It's the bigger one (13"). Glad my flex plate had both patterns.

Re: Previous owner '68
Then I mounted the transmission to the engine. No pics of this, I was too busy for pics. Once I got them together I checked the clearance on the converter and then bolted everything together.
Finally I lowered them into the frame. The 73 up motor mounts seem to have worked well.

Re: Previous owner '68
The transmission mount worked out after some drilling and adjusting. This was a cheap cross member for a squarebody that I had to modify to fit.

Re: Previous owner '68
Then I put the script valve covers on just to get an idea if I like the direction I'm going.

Thanks, I'm glad to have the engine and tranny in the frame, now I can work on fuel lines.

Re: Previous owner '68
Tried the exhaust manifolds on to see if there were any clearance problems. I think they will be okay. Cheap chinese crap... but better than what I had.

Re: Previous owner '68
Ran the main fuel line in 3/8" size up to the pump. Waiting on some fittings to go up to the carb. I have realized that I would have progressed much faster if I would have had a project plan.
Nah, that sounds too much like work!

Re: Previous owner '68
Attached the fuel and brake lines to the frame while waiting on parts.
Also attached the rear shocks, I had to use ratchet straps to get them on as I don't have much weight on the back yet. I know! Looks like scrub-line issues. Pretty good discussion on rear scrub-line issues. https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=711026

Re: Previous owner '68
Finally got the correct fittings to run some lines. i started on a gas tank vent system, but will have to wait until bed is installed to finish it.

Re: Previous owner '68
Then I went to the engine and started bending up hardline for the carb. I do not like bending 3/8" hardline, I wasted about 3 feet before I was somewhat satisfied with the results. I test fitted the alternator to make sure everything cleared and then put a spring stone protector over the line ( mostly to hide the poor bends!)
I used a banjo style fitting with a filter in it so I wouldn't have any rubber line after the pump.

Re: Previous owner '68
While I was kinking up the fuel line I had the oil filler tube in the wobble-pop freezer. It drove in easily after an hour or so.

Re: Previous owner '68
I had to come up with a way to get the transmission to shift since the truck was originally a 3-on-the-tree. So I bought a Chinese knock-off transmission mounted shifter from ePay. I had to modify it just a bit to fit but it really wasn't too bad.

Re: Previous owner '68
I'm not sure the position is just right but at least if fits without the cab! I may end up getting a taller shift lever, I don't know at this point.
I did have to chamfer the top of the drivers side mounting bar because the down lever was rubbing it. I also had to shorten the passengers side mounting bar by 1.5" to get it to fit. Other than that it was fairly easy.
