Cool history. When you get her done you'll have to make that drive again.

Getting some holes welded up on the firewall today. Finally picked up a welding blanket for the engine. Ordered some 16 gauge hole fillers from speedway. Finally getting a little progress done everyday.

Are the little bumps on there to help hold them in place or just manufacturing process?

A friend told me to find a washer that fit the holes, weld them in, and then weld up the smaller center hole.

We got a massage. Wildfire smoke was bad. Didn't want a town picture, took a shortcut.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Just a quick question.
Can someone help point out exactly what holes I should keep? I plan on keeping most things in stock locations. Battery tray Aftermarket heater assembly Wiring grommet holes High beam switch Have to install brake booster Plan on just having the bare minimum |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
my brake lights stopped working. its yet another witing issue. really the only things that ever go wrong with my truck. i paid to have it wired and now i wish i had done it myself. i checked fuses and grounds. they were all fine. i put a power light on my colum plugs and got nothing. nothing for brakes or signals. hell not a single flash on the power light. im kinda stuck at this point. i put in an email to tech at Ididit to see what they have to say. i dont like things that kee me from driving my truck. ive been doing a lot of light body work and priming to make it look nicer. its getting there.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I started filling the holes in my donor frame. I made these little buttons so I could TIG it for the most part without filler rod. It significantly reduced my tip dipping. I also don't like the idea of just piling MIG wire in there. I don't like grinding. Probably not how it's supposed to be done but it made it easy peasy. They took me about a minute to a minute and a half to make each. The bigger ones take longer because of the parting. There is going to be a lot of work done on these and I wanted uniformity in the steel. Thank you for your time.

mick53,
I am continually impressed by your skills and drive to get it right. Looking at the site sure sometimes helps me to put in some extra effort when I have a decision to do something one way or the best way! sick57, That is a beautiful sight! Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
i got my turn signals working again. turns out that part was just me being an idiot. replaced the brake switch and didnt help. i followed ididits testing directions. im not getting power tot he "power" wire for the brakes. next step is to pull the fuse paneloff the firewall and make sure it hasnt come loose from the back. annoying.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
That's a tough act to follow. It finally quit raining here and it's back in the 90's but at least it's humid. I finished filling the 123 holes in my first frame donor rail, 123 to go. I still have 2 or 3 hours of grinding and sanding to do on this one but it's close.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well the corners are rusted but still not bad at all. Trying to find a decent quote here in Northern Cali to blast and epoxy the cab then I can attempt to do the corners. Little patience and time right?
Here are the pics of the corners. I know blasting and epoxy will preserve it so I won’t have to worry about it 15 years from now. Just need to find a good shop. Anybody in Northern Cali know of a dependable shop? Last edited by Rickysnickers; 07-03-2021 at 06:29 PM. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I have nearly 1000 miles on my truck now (took two years) so time for its first oil change. I won't be changing the oil every thousand miles, just the first time to purge all the shop dust and build residue from the motor. Probably will change it every 5000 miles henceforth. Nonetheless I was surprised how dirty and black the oil was.

Valvoline 20-50 Race Oil. I need the zinc for my flat-tappet SBC.

What I did with Blue Cloud.......... been running like a champ.
Been collecting certain rocks, for my yard. This load would be 5 walks through a nearby field. I could use a positrac rear end.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Really over the past week, installed a T5 in my ‘59. It all went smoothly, bolted up easily, needed the driveshaft shortened, a great improvement though, a lot more fun to drive.
