Unfortunately when we went to put the Porterbuilt hood hinges on we found some rust on the cowl right where the one hinge would go, probably wouldn't support the hood on the driver's side, so--since I'm only running 18's--we're going to try the stock hinges and cut away the inner portion of the fender AND the bottom of the hinge and see if it will lay out. The tire diameter is small enough that the heater box won't rub unless it's fully aired out, so the hinge thing may work. Otherwise it's sheetmetal repair time--which I wanted to hold off on for a bit. I can't weld, and I'm running out of money!
Sounds like you need to do what I did this past weekend, I grabbed my brothers welder and was like what the hell lets try this . I did ok for my first time, I still need alot of practice before I would be confident doing anything major.

I have to tell you that I love the Torq Thrust on your truck. They are hands down my favorite wheel ever. I don't care how many people run them, they are simply awesome

Thanks! I agree! I've just been driving it and upgrading little stuff since I bought it......like getting the dash lights, wipers, and heater control working again, rebuilding the carburetor, etc. This is really the first upgrade/fix that actually makes it look like anything has been done!

That's awesome!!
I was thinking maybe it was lame to bring my incomplete truck there, but people were all over it, while the immaculate restorations were looking lonely.

I know the feeling.A friend of mine has a 71 ElCamino thats factory all the way,but it is lime green. We get to shows and they flock to mine then look at his as an after thought. It is a whole lot cleaner than mine but I guess its the color.

Let a rat rod pull in,they run to it.I usually do.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Replaced my spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires, checked vacuum and timing.. truck is still missing under load. runs great, normally around town but as soon as you put it to the floor, it starts missing and hesitating. Could it be the points? How do you know when your points need to be replace? fuel filter is also new.. This old stuff is all new to me. Frustrating. I cant wait for my LMC order to show up with all my interior bits. Then I will be happy again!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My son and I finally got back on the '67 swb stepper we are building for me to use in the last week. It had been setting in my garage since last fall when we moved the cab from the lwb frame to the swb frame and transferred all the '71 5 lug running gear to the frame.

We are building this as nice driver with a few mods here and there to make it what I like, which may not appeal to others. Since I plan to drive it and not sell it, I figured what the heck might as make it the way I like.

In the last week we ground down all the repair welds in the cab, pressure washed the frame and cab, primered the floor, installed a power brake booster and yesterday he shot gloss black paint on the frame, fire-wall and floor of the cab.

We are letting the paint dry for a few days and then we are going to prep the inside of the cab for priming and painting.

My son is the motivator on this project since he has rebuilt quite a few of these old truck, I am providing the finances and doing as much as I can to help.

Some day with what I have learned from my son I hope to do a project myself, only time will tell how that works out since I am getting to be an old guy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Went through a box of stuff that came with the truck and found this Royce cb/am/fm radio. I had to do it. It works! While it's not like my 29LTD, it does get out a bit. Kinda a cool old radio. Best part, no dash cutting needed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Early this morning we hooked it up to a gooseneck trailer and went to get hay. We put 22 rolls of hay on that trailer and the 72 pulled it like a champ. I love that truck I want 5 more just like it lol.

Installed all new "lighted markers and new Brothers 68 GMC front turn signal lenses... ( Beware that these DO NOT come with new gaskets like their catalog says)...luckily my gaskets were in very good condition...

Today....new power steering hose...blew a hole thru the old one while truck was sitting, parked....for no apparent reason!!

. . . .

We took it out to a local show and enjoyed the beautiful 75* weather.

Talked to the owner of a 71 with an ORIGINAL 307 valve cover decal.
