Rattle canned some more fautina. Few more panels to complete bodywork. Sanded rust off the vent windows. Got all the bolts in my reclaimed wood bed.

You did real good with your purchase, most of the time the wood floors are shot in these trucks.

I posted on page 178. Today I hugged my truck because it is officially mine! I also removed the box, let the work begin.

Picked up the driver's side outer fender from the painter. The other fender still needs a bit of work though. Soon, she should be ready for reassembly!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Yesterday I replaced my broken vent window. Today I refurbished my door panels. They will need replacing in the future but they look pretty ok for now. Also treated them both with rust inhibitor paint. I didn't get to the dash replacement this weekend, and I have to go out of town tomorrow, so that'll have to wait till next weekend.

This has given me some inspiration, I have thought of using rustoleum brand rattle cans, about how many did it take for you to cover your truck?

Thanks, it really isn't that bad. I still have bodywork on the white of the cab to do and the right fender and door. Rustoleum covers really good. I used satin. Most panels I give about 3 coats and a coat of black underneath over the body work. I'll have about $100 or less in spray paint at around $3 a can. I scuffed it down with a 3m red scuff pad after I sprayed it. I tried using some polishing compound to give it a little sheen. Before photos below. I don't have the money and time to disassemble to do a real paint job right now so this works.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I was thinking about an orbital sander with a scotch brite pad on it first, then sanding as needed to remove runs. I don't have time to remove panels either, but, I'm going to try it anyway! I'm thinking of tackling the bed first - will have to order some hardware for replacing the ones I'm sure I'll have to grind away!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I started my build I guess you could say. I got down under my truck and removed the driveshaft, hanger, the exhaust, radiator and supports and got it ready to remove the motor and transmission. I will be degreasing it all underneath and cleaning it up for the new motor which I will bolt onto the transmission after I clean it up and add new seals, filter, and gasket. I am also dropping off the radiator to be flushed and pressure tested. I was surprised to see it full and still bright green after all these years sitting. Since 96 or a few years before.

Your truck came with a motor? How rare is that model? Mine came with an engine.

Just messing with you, technically these are "engines" as "motors" are electric, but most everyone wants to use the wrong term, even saying "crate motor" instead of "crate engine."

All I did was inquire about a cluster, buy some cluster parts, and figure out a new use for my truck (when running). I just now bought a boat that I plan to haul in my truck.

OK, so went to a festival Saturday and on the way back saw this on the highway - to each his own, I didn't care for what he had done, but it is definitely a head turner. I had my sister take the pictures.

Whoa son. He's got the sun visor, wide whites, contintental kit, mag wheels, bikes, coke trailer. You won't find another one like it.

one day his wife probably said get rid of all of that junk laying around the house"

he said "that's all good stuff, I'm not throwing it away, it's for my project"

She said "it's junk, throw it away!"

he just had to prove her wrong!

Got busy and welded up the old mirror holes today in prep for my new sport mirrors. It was a quicky job, weld, grind, spot prime, and rattle can some color and we're good to go.

Tonight I worked on my DBW pedal and was able to mount the 71-72 pad on the 03 Silverado assembly. Still need to make a bracket for it in the cab.
