Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Ordered a Street Demon 1901 (Polymer center), went to the auto parts store to try to sort out the gas cap issue. Removed a little fluid from the Master Cyl rez. while trying to sort out the cap/gasket leak. Climbed under and made a heat shield between the new pass side pipe and the fuel line under the cab. Sorta figured out that the trans fluid ooze was coming from the trans dip stick. I have another one that isn't as "fancy". Like fancy women (no offense, Ladies), most of the time the ones that are built more sturdily work better in the long run. I'll change out the filler "tube" next time I can deal with going under....

Installed the trim around that already installed home-made headliner. Plopped a center console in....I think [I] got his one ten years ago off the shelf at Pep Boys.

It's only 2:10 in the afternoon. I'm glad to have her home, but that's all I can do today. I'm old.

Those look great! How do you like 'em? Does your hood open as far as it did with the stock hinges? How hard was it to adjust the hood? What brand are they?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Found out my rear main leak is a rear main and an oil pan leak, my rear shock mounts are shot, my upper coil mount was missing, my trans has no reverse lights ran to it, my new exhaust was ran where my bump stops used to be and apparently I've been driving around for four months with no pilot bearing. On the upside it's Saturday

Typical Summer in La La Land ;

It's been over 100° F so instead of driving my air conditioned Mercedes , I've been driving my '69 C/10 . it starts right up and goes just fine in the blistering heat , but of course ! it's an 42 year old unrestored CHEVROLET .

Post Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed the Vintage Motor Minder gauge I scored recently and plumbed it in , it works great , now to find a bulb holder so it lights up @ night , in time it'll be part of my lockup TH350C's torque converter control system , I'm adding a green pilot lamp to the setup too so it'll let me know whenever it locks up .

Installed two rope hooks to the backup lamp bolts as I hate drilling holes .

Installed an under dash oscillating fan .

Swapped the tailgate hooks & chains left for right so underhooking the tailgate is easier , this is an old Farm trick that prevents the hooks from jumping out when you're bouncing down dirt roads .

I pulled the spark plugs as it's been missing at idle ~ WOW are they oily ! I wish I'da had my camera as it's hard to belive it ran like this , I guess the bubbas who
" rebuilt " this engine just before I bought the truck , screwed it up , I have a spare 292 and may have a line on a takeout 1969 numbers matching 250 , if so I'll overhaul it and stick it in , the work never stops .

I'm still not sure which engine I want , the 292's are great but thirsty .

In any case , I used my War Surplus Dental Pick to carefully scrape the plugs clean and re - installed them after opening up the gaps to .070" ~ this will drive the HEI to it's full output and maybe stop the plug fouling .

It figures I'd install the cab fan the same day the heat wave finally broke .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

It's about the DMV...California style.

The short version: After paying my tags late in July for the period of 9/30/12 to 9/30/13...and them cashing the check on 8/3/12, no tags came. More shortening:
At least eight calls later all over the state, with a number of folks hanging up on me (I was ALWAYS NICE...Every time, I had to tell the whole story over to someone new...
...and I thanked them for listening), I got thru to the boss of the boss of the manager at 2:00 today.

I usually don't go the "going over your head route". But I was really exasperated. She asked me, "HOW DID YOU GET MY PHONE NUMBER?" Which gave me the chance to
throw under the bus a particularly nasty person who said she was mailing my tags to me back on the 10th.

Ms. Boss said she'd call me back. I thanked her for any help she could offer. I told her I wasn't a celebrity, I wasn't rich, I wasn't anything but a citizen that already paid the
State for something that I'm still not getting, and one to whom promises have been made for way too long....Then I told my wife, "Sure, she'll call me back."

At 4:00 I got a call from a woman who said she worked for the Big Boss. She had "cleared" my tags and is mailing them out today.

There is some promise here, as she left me her name and phone number and told me she worked for Ms. Big....I think something's gonna happen this time.

On another front, I put on the new Street Demon carb. Still working out the linkage, as I had Mickey Moused the last one on the Edlebrock. Very slick install, otherwise.
Too hot to finish this afternoon. Can't finish tomorrow...gotta do family stuff. Pics of the finished product on Sat. evening.

Here's the notice that came three years ago...I went and got the plates way back then.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed crossover steering... man what a difference.

All new ball joints, tie rod ends, steering box. Went from a 4 turn 4x4 box to a 3 turn 2wd box. It steers like an indy car, without the annoying bump steer.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Spent the weekend with friends who helped do a overhaul on my truck. I brought in the parts (and few runs to the store) and a very good friend from VA drove in with tools and 8 cases of craft beer unavailable in Nashville.

Top end rebuild, new intake, new carb, waterpump, fuel pump, tuneup, new radiator, fan/fan clutch/shroud and distributor rebuild. Font suspension overhaul of brakes, all bushings and ball joints tire rods, ubolts, springs and shocks and rear shocks (the rear springs will have to wait as bolts broke trying to get to them and we ran short on time)

We had some issues here and there including some broken head bolts.
Don't trust Felpro head bolts everyone. Also LMC Ubolt sizes are wrong.

Before http://i.imgur.com/CQKXM.jpg
During http://i.imgur.com/1Yo7M.jpg
Almost Done http://i.imgur.com/P9aCd.jpg

Still have a few things to do but its pretty much done. Just needs a power steering belt and some hose NTP fittings for the heater.
