Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So it is clearly now school holiday season.
When I take off time, often this is the result. Weather Waking to this. Taking time in the morning to help Mickey sort out a large patio gazebo. He wanted to weld, note how mask is used though. Then moved the welder trolley back home and got on with making up the door @PaulY brought for his annexe Frame idea. Using old bed stringers Cut to size, triangular in shape, this drives guys like @CraigRK nuts as it screws with his OCD And and infill section made up, as door is mounted 150mm away from planned position, adding more space. Weather continues to be rubbish. Door hung, ghetto style building here. Supervision Hung More Weather Much Much later Foam cavity filler. Horrible stuff too. Trimmed back. Some more woodwork and paint left to get done, in order to close up foam and finish off. Last night 7.00pm I got this far. Waiting for CraigRK to get here. This time last year we had touched down in New York, on our way to St Louis. Covid19 has screwed us a bit this year. But projects are moving on.

Looks good Rian. It is sooooo HOT here (and humid) it is hard to get motivated outside. So glad we were not really impacted by the storms. I'll get motivated on Monday, maybe.

Thank you very much.
I assume you mean the door and compressor room, and not plastic car, Quote:
I was meant to be in the USA since Friday, but Covid19 has screwed that up. So I guess building something makes sense.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So today @CraigRK came over to pick up a toolbox, and I managed to help him take some more stuff to clear my space up.
He also inspected the wasp battlefield; Compressor room is almost ready, and then this big boy can move over. Made in 1973 From this...... URL=https://app.photobucket.com/u/niknakpix/a/e88d5c80-721d-4b49-a43e-c3be437b641b/p/3ef01412-28ed-43cf-a00b-49a507822ef6] To this. Pretty impressed and pleased. Not a lot of progress on finding a transporter to get the Eagle from Ayr in Scotland to Rochester today though. Hopefully Shipley comes up with something

Or as he likes to say, “You do love to dig a hole for yourself” This may be the bit of extra weight on this build.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I'm OK with 5th wheel trailers, but the bumper hitch.....well you would never guess I drove a big rig early in my life (40+ years ago). I hate my little mower trailer. I feel like the biggest idiot on the planet.
Good luck finding a way to get it. If you get it, use a law tractor to pull it back to the garage. Then no trailer backing involved

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So where do I start when wanting to break hearts.
Bill went to look at this on Friday night before going on shift, fighting fires. As mentioned, his Report was that he would be happy to buy it for himself. Good enough for me. Thankfully he took a bunch of heartbreaking photos. This is why I spent my money on, 10 minutes after his approval was voiced. Tell me why I bought..... headache does not count. Previous owner had it 6 years.....; long enough to grow a lot of moss and fungus. Front end From? Rear end From? Engine bay. Empty Safety equipment Lacking (got radio) Tank Relocated Prop shaft “Present” Carpeting, gauges Yes. So it looks like it has potemshul. With team Retro Rides behind me and a few friends alongside me...... It will become something. The Rezin Rockit.... Remember , history can repeat itself. Lightening strikes twice (sometimes) Remember the Not a Project Chevy Blazer? https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...-stranger-2020 This is how I saw it in June 2016 on a driveway where it had stood for 13 years. And how it looked after Less than a year With the help of @PaulY in the snow And then the Money Shot. SOLD OFF IN AUGUST FOR A NETFLIX FILM ROLE. NEW PAINT REVEALED MARCH 2020 So now just need to get it here and start collecting bits to put together.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Last thing tonight, unless my friend Insomnia comes to visit again.
In order for us to all be singing off the same Nando’s menu, a few very simple objectives for this build I want this to be a side project, if that is even possible. It needs to be really simple and without fancy programming, machining and trick parts (all that is relative of course) Easy to find parts and maintenance, using as much standard parts nd as much of what is on the car. Low, rather than high. As silly a power to mass ratio as one can get without sacrificing r3liability. There is just no use in building some exotic car that’s always broken down or waiting for the next exotic parts. All advice, help, guidance thankfully accepted. This following car is not exactly what I want to build, but certainly my general direction. Built for fun, to do the hill climb at RRG ‘18 in a short timeframe by a large team of friends and knowledgable chaps. I have been chatting with @Phoenixcapri as well, he has given some advice and may be along with more. Thread here: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...l-eagle?page=1 There is,this.
 http://www.superstreetonline.com/fea...la-from-manila Best one I've seen
And from far away, these are probably in a different league altogether. This is the idea. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/AGF50KECfPE Bed time , Bootfair in the morning, it’s bank holiday after all. .

Looks like you bought a project to keep from working on a project you already own...
I think it will make a cool little ride!

However, I would like to believe it’s a side project Well. Bank holiday weekend is pretty much over. Still need to get the trailer and fetching sorted for the Rezin Rockit. Thought I would wait till after the weekend. Getting here..... Bill has been looking out for bits already, he seems to have a knack for finding bits. Running about and searching between his home and the stash spot. Some distance away. Hidden here....... The one rear light lense has been missing. At this point we have no idea where it actually could be from. Wide search area by Bill. So right now the search is still on.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Last night mate Scott @jabbo popped around and dropped off a nice tool to help further tidy up my garage,
He had contacted me last week to say that it had become surplus to his needs, was I interested in it for free. Of course I was, mainly because I actually do need it. Now I can split my tools into Metric, in the SnapOn trolley bought last year and the weird stuff in this one. Perfect. In other news, Bill in Scotland, through one of his searches, may have found someone who has a Mk2 Capri rear light lens to sell me for the Rezin Rockit as one is missing. https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...c-rezin-rockit Unfortunately they are not universal, having a wedge shape, and the reverse at the bottom. Let’s see if the guy has one, and what sort of money they make. Still....... The adventure is unfolding.

More later but just leaving you with this for those popping in to take a look.
Its been a very busy day at the day job. Only had lunch (coffee) at 2.00pm and that was not the end of it But eventually at just after 4.15 I managed to get out the house and go for a walk up to the farm. Mate Fil in Cambridge sent this text. Nikki is up for a road trip to Glasgow. Serious offer. We can overnight for free at my mates place in Cumbria. We’re already making plans.. Available from Monday next week.... Fil

So am I, looking forward to it getting here. Free is good, must say, Scott and I go a long way back. Bank holiday weekend over, today kicked off as expected with my boss returning after two weeks off on sick leave, with a BIG BANG However, life does go on, and one needs to try stay ahead. So I started to look at options for a trailer to get the Rezin Rockit down here from Scotland Alongside paying a commercial fee through Shipley.com I would be happier to do a road trip and make it more personal, like hiring a Beavertail or something similar. Or going for a ride with mate Fil. Chatting to Bill at about lunch time on Messenger video, he was in a scrap yard, looking for some parts for a Mercedes Benz, and also for some spare wheel nuts as most on the Rezin Rockit are missing. While chatting I mentioned I was hoping to find a pair of high backed seats, possibly from a crashed 1.2 Corsa with a wing on the rear, parked upside down in a ditch by an over eager young driver. Sent a pic while we were chatting...... Next thing ha shows me a blue car with black seats......... How about these?? Turns out its a Mazda RX8 with black interior, I ;loved them, and asked what they would cost.....? No idea, he replied, but we can ask. Then he turns and there is a RED CAR with black and red interior................. Shows me this..... And inside Crawling around inside, looking for damage and reasons not to take them. So we decide. that Bill will go to the yard owner and see if the front seats are for sale. Knowing this is the state of affairs, if Red and Black is available, mostly they try sell them as a full set. Bill went in with me in tow on video in his hand..... weird yes. Love technology So he asked how much for the front seats and the reply was that they preferred selling the full set. But with a smile he asked again, and was told £100.00 or $135.00 for the two. Seemed he was enjoying this, so Bill asked if that was really their best price, to which the reply was that as a firefighter they would let him have them for £70.00 Winner !! 30 minutes later. And less than an hour later, he had them home, and given a quick wipe down. I am pretty chuffed that this suddenly happened today. Moving along nicely, and we have not collected it.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Thanks
Thought so too. Hence dropping the cash without hesitation So yesterday I go for a walk up to the farm after 4.00pm as I needed a bit of head space, and also to chat to mate Fil about various things. A;so spoke to Ian the one farmer about something I am trying to get sorted. Then a bit further on the way home, still in the mini-village and about 600meters from home I chatted with another “neighbour” who always has a car or bike build on the go, currently restoring a CJ7 for his wife. Told him about the Eagle not soaring, and he immediately offered me his trailer to use. I would prefer to have found a trailer up North that needs repatriation down South so that Fil only tows it one way. This should do just fine if I fail to find something to use up in Scotland Break neck with rear ramp. Should do well. Back to work now. PS. Also found a knob. Not sure about it yet. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So the wheels.....
Seems I have offered on these. Waiting to hear from the seller if he will throw in some wheel nuts in, as the Rezin Rockit only has 2 nuts per wheel currently. They are about 80 miles from me, but why make it easy when building something weird. Description says they are used. But they do look nice in the pics. LOST OUT, SOLD. GUESS I SHOULD NOT HAVE SAID ANYTHING. STILL, NEXT... I do not know the paint colour or codes people use normally. But I do want these in a golden bronze colour Still moving along. For those who remember Edd Weeks who did the conversion on my,1963 Ford Trnsit, he has come up with a colour - Ford Arizona Gold, which is pretty close to what I like. If the car ends up very Red, then the contrast may not be the same as Silver or black, but I think it will be good. He had it on his cars wheels too. Example. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Galaxy worked again.
Used windows going up to a farm in Derbyshire with mate Fil for a shed build when he heads up to fetch the Rezin Rockit in Glasgow. Complete doors with keys, frames etc, all for free Works for me. I robbed the letter box slots off two of them, for my own house door, and the door on the compressor room which looks pretty nasty Plus a smallish section of polycarbonate roofing for a small application on the carport over the compressor room Job done. Despite missing Prozac, this van certainly can.,

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Discovered an older thread via Google Images tonight.
Turns out it is RR’s thread from the past. https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...content-inside But it does show where I would love to get with this car. Look oh at and for wheels on 4x108 in 6J and up to 15” diameter to use. I have copied the pics over for those too lazy to click and go look. Love the style. []Tamiya / Tamiya style Named after a respected builder of this style, these are the more traditional of the Owner Type Jeeps here, but this style is still defined by its lowriding wide wheeled, low arch gap stance. Tiquia / Tikya Style A more recent development of the low stanced Tamiya style Jeeps. Mr Tiquia (who I think runs Tikya Toy Performance) and some others are building these short wheelbase Jeeps. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Funny how when you look around, once you find something, there suddenly are more of them.
Saw this on FB Marketplace this morning. £1500.00 May need some work though, like the one I got, plus of course transport, unless it is your neighbour Driver side Other side Front side Inside Guess we will be having fun.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
In other news.
Mate Bill in Glasgow wanted to go see if the steering wheel from the red car was removable....... red and black. He will also investigate the seat base of the passenger seats, to see if they are interchangeable with the red, to lose all the weighty motors in the drivers side and get both on ADJUSTABLE runners, which suits me very much. He sent a pic of my knob. To me, this whole layout is perfect, even the stupid horns on the hood. .
