Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the hood on (still have to move the lines around a little and trim out the sound deadener) ; slapped the trim on the lights in the rear, put the plate on the rear (waiting for the new tags), put on the wipers.
Earlier in the week, I put the wheels and tires on after she was up on blocks for a long time. When I stepped back to look at the hood all closed up, something seemed wrong. The drivers side was a tad higher..... Oh No! I thought I'd already lined everything up. I took a measure...It was about 1/2 inch plus off. So I did a visual....Huh? Seems somebody put both rears (275/20's) on the driver's side, and both fronts (245 x 20's) on the passenger side. I wonder who was stupid (and/or tired) enough to do *that*? Same guy will fix it on Monday.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Have had new carpet, seat cover and seat belts sitting in the garage waiting for the weather to cool down a little bit. Got the carpet down, then the wife announced she wanted to go shopping. So in the best interest of my bank account, I stopped and went with her. Hopefully, I can get it finished up tommorrow.

I had already ground down the rotor "nose". So the back wheel fit on the front really, really well!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well I decided to go to the Woodward Dream Cruise , since it is only 10 minutes from home .. I normally take Ol'blue and drive up it once , then park at my buddys place and hang out on the side of the road and watch cars.. Well this time we had a few problems .. It quit in the middle of traffic , you know the kind that uis travelling at 2mph .. Luck we were on the inside lane so we pushed it onto the median .. found a wire had shorted out and caused a splice in the wiring to let go .. lucky I had a length of wire in the back of the truck and and a screw driver on my key ring .. so my son and I got that fixed and started crusing again and I noticed I didnt hear the fan for the radiator running .. turns out it fried .. so we decided to head home .. at 30mph it cools just fine with out the fan ... so at all the lights before the highway we just shut it off and fired it up when it turned green... made it home and now I have to decide what wiring system to buy ,and what BRAND name fan to install..... other than that it waS A GREAT TIME WITH MY SON..........

Fabbed a nifty little bracket to use a '64 horn button instead of the ugly Grant one. Also got started on the rear section.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
That cylinder rust isnt too bad. I once bought a 69 Impala for the 327 and T400 in it for one of my trucks. Flood water had gotten into 2 cylinders. One was substantial. I broke a piston getting it out. Rust was too deep to save it. It was a low mile engine so little wear. I had the one cylinder sleeved to put it all back to stock size. It was a great little motor that I ran for 8 yrs or so then sold the truck. New owner was tickled pink with it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my '69 fired up, and got my '97 3/4 ton to move under her own power...
For the first time in almost a year, I got to hear 3 out of 4 of my trucks run. If I hadn't run out of daylight, I would have made it 4 out of 4.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Just got around to working on the carb yesterday. After changing the oil / filter and also draining enough water to get my anti freeze in, re installed thermostat, made sure block was full as well as the radiator. Started right up after about 1/4 throttle. It seemed sluggish so I advanced the timing a little (started at 12 btdc) and switched my vacuum advance line to the full time vacuum port. Still seemed to want a lot of throttle to start and spit a little till it cleared out. Neighbor stopped by (manages a local garage, good gear head) and said to take a bigger swing at it with a lot more advance. We cranked that sucker around A LOT and wow it sprang to life. Started with just a tap of the throttle, idled great and great throttle response. It seems to want around 18 degrees advance. I need to get a dial back timing light on it. I need to see what my total is. Neighbor said he thinks it is a tooth off. Moved the distributor one tooth clockwise. Tried to start it and noticed the fuel pressure was low...checked the gauge and was out of gas . I will get more fuel today (93 octane) and see what we get. The great thing I found is I seem to have around 10 inches of vacuum at the manifold. There's my update!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well we got the timing and carb adjusted. Still a little too much advance but I still have a few things to do. I was able to take it out around the neighborhood tonight. The first time to drive it in 12 years. It felt really good. Everything worked well. Transmission is crisp, brakes are firm, runs on the cool side (even though it is new and tight) and sounds great. I have a couple of rattles to work on, fix a small exhaust leak, check the adjustment on the valves but mechanically I've pretty much got it done. I am just going to fill and seal the seams in the bed sides for now. Lots of work to do on the interior. Should have sound deadener, carpet, stainless sill plates and sound system in this weekend.
