Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Redid the rear drums. Have I mentioned how much I HATE drum brakes!!!!! Disc's I can do in my sleep, but drums whoop my ass!!! I put Reveille up on jacks Monday night so I could work on her as soon as I got home on Tuesday. The local PD saw fit to mark her as abandoned!!! REALLY?????!!!!!! Today's plan after work is to finish the front brakes and get her rolling again. Motor/Tranny is in good shape, runs great, just have to get her stopped! LOL!

Exclamation Re : Curbside Auto Repair

The Gendarme's always hate this , or maybe one of your snoopy neighbors called them to complain .

I have a crazy drunken b*tch next door to me who's pi$$ed off I won't service her after my divorce so she calls the Police and Code Enfocement constantly , they go to my house and call me asking : ' where is this oil you dumped in the street ? everything looks nice and tidy here.... ' .

Snoopy old ladies and holier than thou Po-Po are a right pain in the bum .

Drum brakes are dead simple and easier than discs , once you have the cheap tool that makes those crazy springs easy to take off and on again .

Post Re : Brake Spring Pliers

Here ya go : http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=ut...20pliers&type=

One picture shows how to use them.

Sears , Kragen , Shuck's , Pep Boys and your local Pawn Shop all have them , no need to buy the $nap - On ones .

There's another tool to remove the hold down springs easily , it looks like a screwdriver but with a round tip to hold the hold down spring as you twist it 90 degrees .

I'm sure you know to never , EVER take apart both sides at the same time ! therin lies madness .

Work carefully & safeley , support the truck on jack stands or an old stump , NO CINDER BLOCKS ! slide the rmoved wheel up under the chassis as a secondary safety support just in case .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

She is parked in the street in front of our house. Our drive has too much of an angle to even risk putting her up on there. I have a feeling I know who did it. While I was working on it yesterday, there must have been 10 people stop and talk to me while I was working on her. One guy, who lives across the street, drove by slow and was shaking his head. Figure it was him!

Those retaining springs, especially the back side with the autoadjuster are a right pain in the a**! Especially with just needle nose pliers!

Maybe it was the guy in the 1200 block (1241?) that has his car covered up in the driveway. I wonder if he got a ticket, too.

I'm in love with Texas. One of the reasons is for the "live-and-let-live" attitude I've encountered there.
But, I guess people are people wherever we are, huh? Bummer.

It's your vehicle, and they cited it as an "abandoned vehicle." It is not an abandoned vehicle! You should be able to just show proof of ownership.

Very true! Of course someone has to be home to show them. Plus it is registered to me so all they have to do is run the plates.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I'm very excited today. I got it out of the garage for the first time in three years. It went in as hundreds of smaller pieces and came out a truck!

I have lots to do, like straighten the lines, badges, etc. It's going for exhaust on Saturday. Still waiting for the tags, so it'll have to be on a trailer.

What a pay-off. Wi$h I had the ca$h for some paint. Oh, well.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Yes those are Stainless Steel self tapping screws holding them on. The PO had drilled and screwed some on. I simply took the trim off and refinished them, and then spaced the screws out as to use the PO'S screw holes. I could not find, and couldn't afford to buy new trim.

There is nothing stock about the truck, so I have modified it as we rebuilt it.

AWESOME! it's a proud day to accomplish what you have done. Probably better that you didn't paint yet so you can work out any bugs.....steve
