Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took a trip to the junkyard and finally got a set of trim rings. Not a perfect fit, but cheap is good

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the bed assembled and ready for paint, stripped the cab to send to blasting. Sometime in the next few weeks, I'll order up the LS motor. Hopefully, it'll be done by Thanksgiving. Started it around Sept 1st. and rightly named it project "Quickie"

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I had a bunch of non-truck chores today. But, I decided to wire this up this afternoon since the "chime"
came in the mail.

In the last few de-bugging test-drives, I realized that my hearing issn't what it used to be. Over the nice rumble,
I just can't hear the click of the turn signal flasher...at least consistently...

So, taking the lead from a Forum Member and other internet wrenches, I rigged this up.

Drilled a little "solder hole" down close to the base of the flasher on each blade. Connected small wires to
bigger wires so I could but blades and connectors in the line to the chime.

I think the chime...about 80db...makes the same sound an elevator door does when it hits "your floor"....

I soldered the connectors on and made the leads longer just in case I want to put in a switch for those times you
have to sit at the light for a long time and your passenger says, "Can't you stop that infernal racket?"

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Swapped out my door locks today. I was really dreading having to do this. My locks were super worn out and sometimes it would take me 5 min of wiggling the key to get the stupid thing to lock. I bought some replacement GM locks a few weeks ago. Finally today i pulled off my door panels and went at it. Took me 5 seconds to remove the door lock and within 5 min I had the new one reinstalled and working. WOW that was easy! I was expecting to spend half the day working on those things. I also swapped out the ignition as well. That was even easier. Now I can lock and unlock BOTH my doors from the outside! Feels like a new truck! haha

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally got motivated and got rid of the 4 wheel drum brakes and the sky high stance. Still have some work to do, but I'm close on this part. Just have to change out the U-joint to match the '84 12 bolt (Cut off the leaf spring mounts & shock mounts and welded on CPP conversion mounts...why I used it... McGaughy 13" brake kit, Auburn diff, 3.42's, etc) I put under it, and finish up the brake lines to the CPP M/C and P/V.

The "new" stuff...McGaughy 13" front & rear brakes. 18" Boss 338's, 18x8" in front and 18x9.5" out back. Front has 2 1/2" drop spindle, 1" drop coil, 'completely rebuilt '76 upper & lower control arms, and all new MOOG '76 steering pieces/parts. Rear has CPP 4" drop coils and CPP deluxe bent bar (to clear HUGE aluminum diff cover). Exhaust is touching the rearend on the passenger side and holding it up just a tad. I'll fix that tomorrow.

I've got the complete 5.3L/4L60E swap sitting in the garage and I'm waiting on my buddy to free up some time so I can start on the Paint & Body...

I like that wheel!

I finally got my intake/carb/dizzy swap buttoned up and got the truck to fire up! (fun for me cause I had never done any of this) figured out i need a new battery, so this weekend will be a new battery and cables. and then maybe I'll get around to installing my new comfort grip style wheel and post pics of it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

We were going to paint the inner fenders, radiator core support, inside the fenders and misc other stuff, but the weather was too cold and damp so we decided to do other stuff.

We installed the hi-torque mini starter, battery cables, distributor cap and wires, tac and heater hoses on the 454 in our latest project, '67 swb stepper.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I adjusted the carb, installed a choke cable, changed the thermostat, fixed my oil leak, and ran sea foam through my crank case which resulted in this...

and that picture does no justice, there was a LOT more sludge than shown..

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Oh this wasn't my abuse. I just bought this truck off Craigslist last week and those were my first steps in tuning it up a bit. I'm suspecting it might eat a little oil and maybe the previous owner kept filling it without doing actual oil changes, since the drain bolt was painted over with the engine block/oil pan and looked like it hadn't been removed for quite a while.

Now that the oil has been changed I'm running Valvoline with a Fram oil filter.

Found a set of 15x8 5 lug rally wheels with center caps and trim rings for $15.00 each, at the metal recyclers. Of course I bought them!
