Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the grill all in! Painted my chevy emblem black. Just have to install the headlight bezels and I am getting a new chevy front license plate, not a fan of the diamond plate lol.

Tomorrow I am going to change the oil and get her all ready for Blacktop Nationals this weekend

Rob, man. That's pretty low down to slap a warning on your truck after one day on jack stands. And gives you 2 days to make it operable or it may be removed by the city. At your expense for sure. I don't even know you and it makes me mad. Popos don't do this without someone making the complaint. Have you been crossways with one particular neighbor? You know if their car ended up one night with the wheels removed and it sitting on blocks it might could be called in as "abondoned" ..... just sayin.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Started the 12bolt rebuild.....
didn't get to finish but its a work in progress.
we where smart and bought an extra outer pinion bearing & a solid bearing spacer to make the job easier.. so far its been pretty straight forward.

we need to work out a few shim details, but for the most part its going smoothly.

THIS IS WHERE WE LEFT IT FOR TODAY, NOT FINISHED BY ANYMEANS BUT WE ARE ON OUR WAY..

Thanks, Everyone.

Without the Forum to answer questions, inspire me to get off my ass, meet some new friends, and source and purchase parts from our great vendors,
I wouldn't have gotten this far. And that's a fact.

Just one guy in a garage with hand tools. A little help from pals and family for extra muscle and brain.

Here are a few more. Tomorrow evening I'll use Smugmug to post some seat belt install shots and the finishing touches (I hope) under the hood for this driver.

Thanks. Never thought I'd love a truck as much as I loved my old '72. I guess that laying under, over, across and in
front of this one made me feel like she's my baby. Turning every nut and bolt on her will do that, I guess.

The California DMV is taking their sweet time in getting me the tags. I'm gonna wait until the tags come to
take her in for the exhaust.

In the meantime, a few "finishing" touches...although, as we all know, they are never really finished.

New slogan:

The paint
Will have
To wait

Wow. It looks like some PO picked a heckuva spot to drill for that CB antenna ball mount. Is there a matching hole on the inside? Not throwing stones, just sharing in the pain.

No hole inside. I've seen some other trucks this tripe-type swiss cheese holes drilled in (I guess it's only "tripe" if you don't use a CB antenna like the one that used this hole, .. no offense to those that do).
That's probably the first part that will be addressed with the body work. As a matter of fact, the two body guys that have looked at the truck went directly to those and shook their heads.

There's the antenna hole in the cowl, too. I don't use a radio that needs that kind of an antenna, but I plugged the cowl hole with a "normal" antenna for right now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Stared at the inside of my newly sound deadener lined/rubber cab installed/window seals redone....empty and seatless cab. I have a two step plastic stool so I can pretend its driveable. Hoping to get a seat by next week.....that has some foam still in it so I don't sit on the floor and stare through the top of the steering wheel. ugghh

Understood. I have one cab corner that is Bondo City. The original owner's wife told me that one time they got "sideswiped", but I think "T-Boned" is a more likely description. I also have camper stabilizer brackets bolted through/tearing out my cowl. Along with an antenna.

One thing at a time, one day at a time is a philosophy that fits with my existence.

PO decided instead of welding in the new rockers he'd rather rivet them in... oh and he lost a bolt for the hood hinge too. Three guesses what he used.

None that I know of. Have a feeling I know who it was and I have never met him or had any dealings with him. While I was working on it Wednesday afternoon, a guy down the street came up and said that the police were out again that morning looking at it. It is moved now though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Had my carb rebuilt. Oh man it seems this was what has been causing me problems all along. Been wary of driving it across town because when getting off the freeway it would spit an sputter like it was out of fuel. I'll get it on the freeway this weekend but just driving it to the store its noticebly a lot better than it was.
