That probably costs more than I will have in my whole truck!
AWESOME! Steven

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
That's the EFI version of what I'm wanting to build, very nice! That's 4k+ for just the intake and throttle bodies. Would still need an ECU and injectors, EFI fuel pump, etc, and I wouldn't have a clue how to tune it. I can build a carb'd intake for roughly $15-1750 and tune it myself with a $200 buck wideband AFR gauge. Four Empi 51mm EPC carbs (improved versions of Webers) are roughly $11-1200 and I'll build my own intake and linkage.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
Just because...
No updates on the truck, I've been helping with the restoration of a '41 Willys gasser built locally in the early/mid 60's. It'll be painted tomorrow, I'm supposed to paint the frame. We're doing the glass/window channel work, I helped a little with the bodywork, and dad is doing the seats. Here's the full thread on it, it's a really awesome story of the car being revived! Dad used to walk home from school just to get to stop by the owner's shop back then! And he lived close enough that he could hear the late night "test and tune" sessions on the street (!) in front of the guy's shop! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=730747 These are pics of it back in the '60s. Gene (the owner/builder) back in the driver seat after 40 years!

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
I've been following that Gasser thread on the HAMB!
Quain Stott is doing the resto work, right? I am a vintage drag race fanatic, and I have a special place in my heart for Gassers. My uncles used to campaign a D/Gas '55 Chevy back in the day, and that car got me hooked on racing. I'm looking for the car, but have turned up nothing.

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
Ditto for me, been watching the restoration on the willys as well, I used to have a million hard pics of gassers, they were at my parents place until a wild fire took they`re home, we had a 48 anglia for about 6 years, then I sold it, started having kids....

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
Sweet! ...thanks for sharing.
I've always wanted a Willy's. When I was a kid I had a knack for staying home sick on days when cool old car movies were on(we didn't have cable TV where I lived). One time I saw a movie where a guy wrecked his dragcar(I think it was some kind of Hemi Mopar)in the middle of a big race weekend. Anyways, he puts the drivetrain in an old Willys and continues the race. I think he wins the whole thing? I was about 8 when I saw it so I might be a little off on the details. I would love to see it again! (Sorry to highjack your highjack)... Posted via Mobile Device |

The gasser is in paint so I'll be slowing down on it, might can find time for Goldilocks now! I need to build a couple jigs for my A arms next and buy a pair of spindles and hubs. I'm planning on using factory 14.5" CTS-V rotors and six piston calipers (made by Brembo for Caddy) up front so standard spindles with cast-in caliper mounts won't work. More affordable replacement 14.5" rotors have become available so I'll be able to use those instead of 14" C6 rotors- the full pad height will be used compared to C6 rotors. McGaughy's spindles with custom caliper brackets may work too, I'll look into those and will pick either CPP or McGaughy's based on weight. If anyone is interested in going, the "Moonlighter" will be unveiled at the Greer Dragway Gassers race on May 25th.

I got sucked into Gene and Quain's "Moonlighter" thread on the HAMB last night, couldn't stop once I started was up until after 1 last night went through all 58 pages, amazing build, and story. Also incredible how they managed to find, and in some cases re-acquire original parts. Can't wait to see that one completed!

Re: Project Goldilocks, '66 C10 SWB BBW Build
Got the 5.3 pan swapped out for the F-Body pan. Much more ground clearance and it let me drop the engine a hair more at the crossmember. Also bought a set of jack stands at HF today so I could level the frame. While I was at Harbor Freight and noticed that they had a tubing bender- I'll pick one up for the A-arms next time I have a coupon.
Bottom of pan sits flush with the crossmember for now, It'll hang a tad lower once I raise the crossmember. It should be roughly level with the cross arms once I raise the crossmember. Clearance around the T56. Header clearance.

It's getting there... slowly
Picked up a tubing bender tonight and just tried it out. Bent a piece of scrap 1 5/16" OD 3/16" wall like butter! This will work great for fabbing the A-arms. Just gotta throw together some jigs and pick up a set of cross arms and ball joint cups/plates.

I've been sidetracked a little by one of my childhood dreams, been wanting a Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest ever since I saw a neighbors' red widebody Starion as a kid. I have a chance to buy that exact car and a parts car, just trying to decide if I should make an offer and pull the trigger on them. I'd sell the parts car and keep the red '88 widebody in the barn for a future project. The body is straight and rust free and the interior is pretty decent. I probably should wait and just buy one in good shape once Goldilocks is done...
