kim did it the right way, i cheated and used longhair filler to plug the vents and then welded the panel in
my original intent was to leave the vent loose so that it was removable
you can see the screws in this pic

I welded mine all the way in.

Thanks for responding to me about the radiator fan questions on the other site.

When you say you did those 95+ degree power tours and didn't overheat, do you know what the actual temperatures you run in-town and on the highway at those 95 outside temps?

It would be helpful for me to compare those with the temperatures I'm getting with mine at 95 out.

Since you didn't weld it in entirely, what did you use to seal it in. Seam sealer under edges? Thanks, Jim

i seam sealed the top edge that goes under the windshield and the bottom edge that is screwed
the sides were welded and finished off with filler

i run a stock gauge that has the C----H it's a little difficult to determine the actual temperature
this is where it typically runs in the lower end towards C- i figure this is right around 185 or 190*
seeing as it goes to there and never goes higher, in town or hiway, summer or winter
i also run ac so the fan is on when the ac is on

and i might have lied a little when i said truk never overheated
my fan relay came unplugged from the temp sensor on the first power tour on a 104* day
driving in stop 'n go traffic, i was steaming when i pulled up to a stop light
the gauge was almost on H at that point, but i was also running a 8 lb cap, now i run a 16 lb cap



i believe my radiator, shroud and fan all came from brothers, drop shipped from US radiator



i run my fan relay temp sensor in my lower radiator hose coming out of my radiator
in a short piece of ss 1.5'' exhaust tube with half a ss 3/8'' coupling welded in
having the sensor after the radiator allows the radiator to do it's job before turning the fan on
having it before the radiator, the fan will always be on

Ogre: Just reviewed your creative fiberglass work as I prepare to build my center console. Current plan is to use the center portion of the Envoy console which includes 2 cup holders, a slot of the e-brake and the hole and boot for the shifter. I will need to fabricate forward to the dash and rearward to the cab wall. I'll use wood for this. My question is....have you ever installed fiberglass directly onto plastic? I really like the factory console shapes and want to retain them. thx dug

the resin might eat into the plastic, i'd do a test piece to confirm compatibility
i'd also scuff the plastic with some 80 grit sandpaper to give it some bite

I was wondering how you mounted your fiberglass kick panels to the body, I didn't see any screws visible but I might have just not looked hard enough.

if your referring to the kick speaker panels
all the screws are in the speaker holes
one in the tweeter hole and two in the speaker hole

the cost of front end accessory brackets is stupid expensive, as many of you know i preach build your own
i had my alternator out to replace the regulator this week and took a few pics of the bracket
everything was cut out with a 4.5'' grinder with a cut off wheel and a drill press for holes
3/16'' flat plate, some 3/8'' thick wall tubing for spacers and an adjuster bar i had laying around
it may be a little too industrial for some, but it has worked flawlessly for 30k miles

here's the view from the front, same basic location as the original generator

3 bolts and spacers that go into the vortec head



the thought/design process is pretty simple:
start with a cardboard template of the head bolt locations
transfer to the main plate, lay out the mounting bolt locations, then the alternator bolt location to clear the head
trim plate to a nice shape and fabricate the actual alternator mount, i traced the main plate to make the shape of the smaller plate
for the spacers i estimated the length and bolted it up to check belt alignment, then adjusted the length to fit
i tack welded the spacers on while the bracket was bolted to the motor
for the adjusting bracket i cut the slotted end off a bracket i had, bolted it to the alternator and welded 1'' angle down to reach an existing bolt
no extreme engineering or autocad drawing needed, just designed and fabricated on the motor

fabricating your own brackets allows you to place components where you want them, not where ''they'' want them
it started with my ac bracket, all the universal brackets mount the compressor way high to be universal
i wanted my compressor low and out of view when looking at the motor
