Oil changed today. I also put the inner fender back on the truck. All that is left from my project checklist is to get the horn working. I ordered a new horn from Rock Auto that should be here next week.
One more thing I would like to get done is a trailer hitch, but the one I bought (Curt 13028) doesn't fit. The receiver is too high so doesn't clear under the license plate. I can't return it, so I am stuck modifying/adapting it somehow or selling it and getting something else. |

You're getting a lot done. I put "80's" Cadillac horns in Blue. They are loud. Is that hitch a hidden hitch? You need a hole behind the plate and a flip up license plate on those.

Red Line 81403. It's a break-in additive with zinc for the flat tappet cam. I use half a bottle with each oil change.

So did the hydroboost make the truck stop better? They do give less feedback than vacuum or manual but it should be a dramatic difference in braking.a higher pressure pump or relief valve could help there

Right on. Hey when you get a chance can you measure from the bottom of the bump stop to the contact point in the front and back for me? It'll help me start planning how to modify my rear 80s 3/4 ton leaves to match the 2" ez front.thank you

I got the horn working today. I ordered one high tone and one low tone horn for that extra funky sound. I wasted a bunch of time trying to get the new horn button kit that I got from LMC to work (worthless junk). Fortunately the old parts were still usable.
My steering wheel sure is busted up! Lol |

I just drove it at night for the first time since taking it apart and now the dash lights do not work at all. Fuse is good, but no lights. I hate this thing sometimes.

Turn signal works (the left one anyways), so I think the cluster ground is okay. I'll have to pull it apart and figure it out with a test light.

So I traced it down to no power at the dash light circuit of the fuse block. I called American Autowire and they were quickly able to tell me that the dash light circuit is fed through the park light circuit. Sure enough that's where the blown fuse was. Problem solved.
I also had a bad bulb socket on my right turn signal that only worked sometimes. Replaced that and I have both working turn signal indicators again. It would be nice if my right turn cancel worked, but even the new cancel cam in the column didn't fix it. |

A while back I ordered a trailer hitch to put on my truck. It is a Curt model #13028. I looked on two websites and they both said it would fit, but when I put it under the truck the license plate was definitely in the way of the receiver tube.
Having no way to return the trailer hitch without high shipping cost, my choices were to lower the hitch or to raise the license plate. I found and ordered a flush mount license plate bracket from Brother's Trucks. It is made for lowered trucks so they don't scrape the ground, but it also tucks the plate up an inch and a half making enough clearance for the receiver tube. And I figured higher ground clearance for the hitch is better for going off road. First of all, the Brother's website totally lied and said the part was in stock. I received an email an hour after placing the order saying it was backordered. It showed up three weeks later and they never even sent me tracking. The included LED lights did not fit through the holes in the bracket or through my license plate. To work they would require drilling out the license plate and the bracket. They also do not seem like they would light up the license plate very well since they point away from the registration stickers. I purchased this because I wanted a tucked license plate bracket, not for the silly lights. There is no reason why they could not manufacture this bracket to fit a factory license plate light. It's just an oval and two holes on top. Since the included LED lights were not what I wanted and my grinder was already out, I decided to modify this bracket for a factory license plate light. My work is ugly, but serves the function that their engineers left out. The bracket also needed to be modified to fit. I had to grind down the lower curved edge to get the bracket holes to line up with the holes in my factory bumper. The hardware was also missing lock washers and fender washers for attaching it to the bumper. At $99 plus tax and shipping ($130) I would have to say the cost for the Brother's plate bracket was way too high for what I received. It's just flat metal folded into a three sided box with a few holes drilled. I think most anyone could fabricate this for less than buying it. |

Brothers is basically a drop shipping type of company with very little regard for customer service. I'm glad you got it to work, it looks good.

I got the trailer hitch installed today. I used c-clamps to hold it up while I drilled the holes in the frame, which worked well. It's important to have a rear recovery point attached to the frame in case I get stuck off road. Now I just need to add a trailer wiring harness.
