Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Thanks man! Good luck as your swap progresses, let me know if you need anything/help.
And PLEASE check out my YouTube channel and like and subscribe and stuff, it lets me bring more of this stuff. I've got a new intake mod video, a wideband install video, a DIY dbw cruise-control instructional video, the awaited Line lock video, and a BUNCH more stuff on the way. *on that note, we're getting ready to pick up a DSLR to shoot macro stuff so I can do more low-light and detail stuff on the technical shoots...and were still buying that damn quadrotor as some point too.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Started working on a box for the air filter to help address the IAT concerns. Lots left to do, and of course, a whole video will be coming. Started with the "stock" heatshield that came with the ebay intake, but it didn't fit. I moved to using some cardboard for a template.
Used some square tube and clamps for my bends. Then I could bend and trim any edges/tabs I needed. The long filter will pass into the core support area. I rough trimmmed the support for the filters, this will get rounded out and dressed before anything is mounted. Added an old piece of the existing intake, as well as a 90* bend from an AirRaid BUI kit. I'll probably end up welding the tube sections together to eliminate that extra coupling. Set the box with a screw, and some magnets for the edge for now to mock up. Box is test fit in place. Gotta make the lid, dress the whole thing, coat it with heat reflective, and coat the piping.,

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Thanks guys! Keep it coming, I've never won a TOTM with this baby, which is a freaking shame!
Worked on the intake again today a while. Mounted the filter, got the box positioned around it. Made and sealed the lid. One side screws down with insulated screws and seam tape to prevent chafing and rattling. Other side has thick foam tape that creates a snug fit. The lid kinda "snaps" down under the lip on the core support. You can view the filter by pulling the lid back, and taking it off completely only takes a few more seconds. Now I just need to put some finishes on the tubing and the box to make it look good.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
A better lit picture. You can see the pipes have some scuff damage. Since I'm gonna paint them anyway, I decided to use a nylon brush I had, and semi-brush them to clean off the surface, and give me a unique finish until I get some paint on (in like a day lol).

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Well the home-brushed piping only amused me for about 24hrs....then it was right to coating them.
And satin black Engine Enamel over the high temp primer Installed...just gotta decide on a finish/wrap for the box.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
A few pics from a show I stopped out at this afternoon. Figured I didn't have too many shots from this year yet, or any with the intake setup pretty much done, and all the underhood stuff a little cleaner.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Thanks gentlemen. Kinda in project limbo right now....don't know what the next move is. I've got stuff for a cruise control setup sitting here, as well as a front LED signal conversion letting me open up the nostrils for air...just not motivated.
Still messing with my turn signals. After having the "front brake lights" when I hit the brakes and the signals came on, I messed with the hazard switch and got a change. Now it will signal Left (front and rear) just fine. Right will light the tail light up, but not blink, and the front does nothing. A member/vender who had the same chinese column suggested the turn signal switch is usually the issue...might be able to replace it with an 80's g10 switch. REALLY don't wanna mess with that, I hae getting at my column with where my wiring is, and I have no clue how to open it up to get at the switch. GIVE ME MOTIVATION! please. Lol, someone kick my ass into figuring this out, especially if you know anything about the column switches.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Tried welding stainless for the first time today. Melts really easily, but that means its also easy to overheat. I had some issues with distortion on the thinner plates, and adding too much filler on the thicker stuff (it melts easily into the weld pool, so you end up adding too much filler when there was plenty already there). Aside from that, I got a couple decent practice passes in. Nothing in the weld-porn genre yet, but not bad for my first time on the torch with SS.

I did another one with a project we started for that 350z you guys may have seen in one of my other videos. We build a quick drop hitch and mount so he could put a bike rack or grill on the car without it ruining the sportscar look when not in use.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Good looking truck man!
Do you ever have any issues with the exhaust dumping in front of the fender. I'm looking to do something similar. Have you had any issues with discoloring the paint?

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Quote:
The exhaust in that location is give and take. If you position the tips long engough and with enough angle, the force of the exhaust blows MOSTLY past the fender. However, when i shortened the tips up a little, I did notice some discoloration on the paint. Nothing permanent, just obviously dirtier when you wash it. However, if your running real rich or cold starting, AND have short exhaust tips, AND didn't wash it often, I'm sure you could stain the paint in some way...kinda like cigarettes on teeth. The other things to keep in mind are; that style exhaust runs OUTSIDE the fender, has NO crossover, and is limited to bullet mufflers. You can use a similar exit without using the entire style of exhaust, but the "J-Turn" to get the exhaust through the side is tricky.....the actual layout of things results in some tighter bends than are ideal. When I re-do it in mandrel, we are trying to take some of the sharp turns out of the path. Also, it drones a LOT on the hwy.
