It's an air cleaner element with an additional closed cell material wrap; to function as a "heavy duty" air cleaner option.

Re: SPID Picture thread?

Some asked for the SPID from my 1968 Shortbed 4X4, here it 'tis (not sure what the "custom C&C Equip" option is):

I believe it was foam wrapped around the air filter element but I don't know for sure. I've been trying to find out myself.

Yes, it is.

I guess I didn't explain that very well.

St Louis had some real issues changing over their SPId format in 72. Many of the early units have similar lines like these that actually don't belong on the SPID. In a nutshell it is the base build for that model. Since the layout is generally only for options above the base build you can see the confusion. Most of these types of codes are seen only on the build sheet like the Z13 GVW plate or the D99 paint divider molding. They even have the description wrong on that one. 551 is Med Bronze and White in a Conventional Two-Tone. The four blank descriptions are for your tires. To wrap it up the SPID itself nothing special just a formatting anomaly. Overall the truck was a pretty typical K10.

Bought it a little over 2 years ago, just starting to put a little cash back into it. 72' w 110k miles and mostly original for what I know...I'm still young and learning a lot. This forum is awesome!

I think our trucks are almost twins.....lol....both 'highlanders' for sure.
Here is my (very similar) SPID. Now it looks like you have the 'heavy half' option in your suspension but everything is very similar EXCEPT...notice how some items are set into the opposite column?
This must have something to do with the plant where the truck was built.

It might be that your paint scheme might have had the main inset white...but I'm just guessing here...and it looks like Bruceman has a pretty good take on it.

Very nice truck dude!!!

All Good

St Louis vs Fremont. They do vary between plants (and between model years). In this case the RPOs zig back and forth, so if there is not the same number of options then some are going to end up in the opposite column from yours.

The more obvious difference (to me) is that your SPID has only the three character RPO code, without all of the additional leading and following extra characters.

Re: SPID Picture thread?

I'm trying to figure out what the original trim/paint was, I know it was blue but it has been painted and I'm not sure if there was the white in between the top and bottom like I see on some. I would like to restore it back to original.

Here's the generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center archives for a '72 Chevy pickup.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

Read through that and match up the RPO codes to see what you've got. Just be advised that the actual RPO code is the three space alphanumeric in the middle of the digits shown on the SPID (ie, LS9, PA1, Z62, C60, B85, etc; you can ignore the leading "1" and the last two characters).

Your paint code is 542. That's very specific. It tells what colors were used and where they were used. In your case your blue is code 510 Med Blue and the white is 521 White. As far as location, your code 542 is a Conventional two tone code. Conventional two tone trucks were painted 521 White on the roof, A pillars and upper door window surround. And body color everywhere else, on the body. In your case body color is 510 Med Blue. The pic you posted is correct for a factory Conventional two tone code. Your truck did not have white painted, between the moldings. Or a lower molding. But your truck is a Highlander. Please post your SPID in this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=635040 and we will tell you all about the Highlander sales package, if you don't already know. You have a very nice truck there. Welcome to the board.

Re: SPID Picture thread?

Thanks, Bruce and Coley! I'll post my SPID along with some pics of the interior on the thread you referenced. I'm not familiar w/ the Highlander. I've always wanted an classic C10 because I love the look of them and I'm new to finding out all about them! Awesome truck Coley! Love the color and that you've taken it back to original!
