Re: 1969 Short Wide
Then used a heavy duty drill and a 4" dia. hole saw to cut holes for the exhaust to pass through. I used Ben's(usmcchevy) method to keep the saw from walking off. It still takes some holding on to it tight.
Got my new mufflers in and should have my pipes in tomorrow. I will be building the exhaust next week. My plan is to get this thing to the point of running before I get to the new cab......more on that in the near future.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Good progress and attention to detail Any concerns with the fuel line running close to the exhaust? Vapor lock sucks...

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I went in search of some LS1 manifold connector flange and drop down collectors at local salvages and online with no luck. So I stopped by a local scrap metal yard and picked up some 3/8 steel plates for $11- 2 plates.
Then made a quick model of the flanges. After that ran them on the CNC mill. More fabrication: 3/8 plate setup on the manual to drill the holes Holes drilled Solid model: Set up on the CNC mill: Finished product: |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Here is the latest update. I got my new exhaust pipe and mufflers in last week. It was a long drawn out deal but I have got it basically done. I just need to get some clamps and hangers to finish it.
New pipes and mufflers. Flowmaster universal kit HERE Magnaflow mufflers HERE Started laying the pipes out: I welded all joints with my TIG welder. Decided to dump the pipes just in front of the differential because of clearence issues with the track bar and gas tank. Made some O2 sensor bungs on the lathe: Where I'm at now basically done.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Nice work on the install. I did not know you could get a universal exhaust kit for welding up your own exhaust, thanks for the links.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Very nice work on the exhaust and the welds aren't to bad either. I bet it will sound sweet with the magnaflow mufflers.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Looks good man!
I also like how you threw in the part about casually making the bungs on the lathe. Like it's no biggie! j/k I know for you it's routine, but for the rest of us that's awesome man! |
