Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

The roof is back on!! Roughed in at this point, took about 2-3 inches out of the 'bulbous' top. Sectioned, pancaked, whatever you call it . . .

Very nice!

But im pretty sure you've been saving up these pictures for a while just to drop them all on us at once to make it look like you work really fast and to make us look bad...

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and kind words.
Shannon, You are certainly right about the amount of work. Guessing about 40 hours by the time all is said & done. I think it gives the effect of chopping the top, but I don't do windows!!

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Looks like a great project. I used to know a guy about 10yrs ago or so who did a similar thing except it was a 49 Chevy burb on a S10 Blazer chassis and floor. Not sure whatever happened to him. My buddy and I are doing the same thing with a '71 blazer on a newer Tahoe chassis/floor. I've seen a few other builds all around the same concept. Since you get to keep the stock floor, seat patterns and so on it's just metal work for the body vs frame work and a custom floor to fit a body. I'm trying to think about what other projects we might've done with the same concept or other guys who've done the same build, but seen too many to remember with my memory lol

Keep up the great work! I might just have to stop by some time when the gf and I go back to OR this year. She'd love the bus lol

BBEEP, That looks great. I would love to do it but I am trying to be able to drive mine this summer unfinished. I am going to be pressed for time so at least no for this mod at least now. I love the look. That is going to be an awesome ride!

Shannon,
When you have about 40 spare hours . . . but 60 hours less than doing a traditional chop.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Adding the extra door on the passenger side makes it look shorter. And sectioning the top is helping with that, too.

The 57 is sweet. I think that I remember seeing it on this web site on a different thread.
I love the color combo.

Ogre...The 57 was built by the Roadster Shop. They build awesome stuff. You forgot to mention that thing is LS7 powered...

BBEEP...this one is starting to look like a real truck! Don't know if I missed it somewhere, but what are your color plans?

THAT is a great question. I do NOT know at this point, suggestions? I need to find a 'photoshopper'.
I like dark colors, since I am trying to make it look smaller (shortened tucked bumpers, pancaked top & hood, etc)
All Black? Two tone? dark on top light on the bottom? light on top dark on the bottom?
Of course tinted windows. Kinda like the area around the windows in flat or semi-glass.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

i'm sort of partial to yellow

hugger orange would have been my 2nd choice

my dd is black, shows dirt as you drive out of the car wash
took my yellow truck out this week, didn't wash it from winter storage

I just sold my yellow 29, I drive a yellow PT Panel for work, all my employees were driving yellow Focus' till I traded them off for blue Prius'. I've had as many as 15 yellow at once. Can't do yellow anymore, 'cept maybe my next schoolbus.
The Duck football team would trample me if I chose our archrival Beaver Orange.
I've had black--& I hear ya. Gotta love my bodyman/painter though when he says: I don't care what color you paint it, I'm doing the body work right.

(but I do like this yellow one)

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

I'm no help then...my 08 Ram is bright yellow and my 56 gmc is bright orange. Maybe you could lie about the color and tell them the orange is really a dark yellow, the way pontiac lied and told everyone my " hugger orange" was really " carousel red".

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Hey Beep got a question for you since you got so much experience in the burbs. and panels. How do you hide the wires going in to the doors for the power windows, mirrors. with out putting them were they would get cut off or torn. Till the March wind stops blowing I dont think I'll be Mig welding my frame mounts outside. So I thought I would start running some of my wiring. Thanks

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

PRWFAB;

I guess some would call me a cheapskate, I think I'm frugal!
I used a 1/2 inch by 6 inch extension spring like the one pictured on the right. The hooks I used to connect them inside the door or inside the kickpanel. I cut the hook off the other side, since it is the end that has 'movement'. Then I insulated the wires and ran them through it. If you only connect one side, the other will slide easily through a plastic grommet when you open the door. (no noise)
You can buy them in lots of colors, diameters, tensions, and lengths at the hardware store. Cost a couple bucks.
