71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Cab is looking sweet. Shouldn't be long now. Yup, the whole bodywork thing is a time killer. I swear it would cost less to take a couple bodywork classes, buy materials, practice and do it ourselves. And that's even considering I hate sanding!!!!

I can work Bondo and do good job of it. I watched my brother when he would repair cars back in the day and he showed me some tricks that has come in handy over the years.

Getting ready to pull the tranny of the Satellite this week for the 2nd time and see what is going on.

I worked on the exhaust today and finished up the mounting locations 4 on each side started grinding the welds and I think I found the 2nd most hated thing I don't like doing is grinding. Each weld is a 3 step process grinding the weld with grinding disk then sanding disk and finally polycarbide abrasive wheel.
I think I will do 4 weld a week until in finish to break up the work.

I installed the gear reduction shift lever today to bread up the grinding.

Looking good! time to get the TIG welder out!!! I think I am going to buy one soon. Question where is your fuel tank going?

Fuel tank is going in the back it will be about 18" wide 42" long the front will angle in at the shocks at a bout 45 degrees to clear the exhaust I should end up with a 5300 cubic inches of space I think it end up 25 gallons.

No work done on the truck last week end had to work. Now that the job is signed off and they are moving in I will have some free time this coming week end to get some work done and deliver some part to 1 of the members.

The tranny is junk. Can't even remove the torque converter from the 727. I boxed the A904 and 727 to ship them back. The 727 is under warranty the A904 hopefully they will give me some money back.

As for the truck I did get my power steering pump pulley installed and the belt that came with the Vintage Air kit fits.

Man, that stinks! Removing transmissions several times sucks for sure!

Yes it does. But we have it down to 1 hour to remove and about 1 & half hours to put it back in.

Not much work done on the truck in the last 2 weeks. I did sell my long bed and bed sides to a forum member about 2 week ago. That helped clean out my side yard. only thing left is 2 doors from my 71 truck and some small parts from the suburban. The priming is almost done should be getting the cab and bed back in about week. TCI said I can return the 2 tranny's for review. they will most like repair and send them back. hopefully I can get some money back on the A904 and try the 727 one more time in my car.

I finally found my body bushing at Sky's shop 2 weeks ago. I could swore that I had picked up the box a couple months ago. My memory is fading fast. Any way I did get them figured out and mounted the radiator core support. I did not get much done last week end. Donated my old engine out of my 73 Satellite to High school they even took my lawn edger with 3.5 hp Brigg on it for the first class of the year.

At least I was able to send them back. I'm hoping for some money back on the 904 and fix the 727 on their dime then ship it back. they just received them yesterday according to tracking.

We got Primer but I'm out of money for paint and looking at getting another round of cash to get it painted by end of summer with some luck.

That's a lot of truck to paint so I'm guessing it won't be cheap!
