Re: 61K10 build
When you get the new ones, slather them in thick Vaseline to help make the bearing stick.

Hey, at least it is a removable third member! Otherwise you'd be spending a lot more time down there.
How did the test run go???

Re: 61K10 build
I have been home sick a few days and been lurking for more ideas and inspiration and found your thread. Just went through it start to present. You have done a beautiful job on this truck... I am envious, wish I was at the "working out the bugs" stage of my build...
Cheers, and good luck with your fixes

Re: 61K10 build
Jason--haven't installed it yet, maybe today. been getting ready for a big storm the next couple of days.
CRGRS 66--It's been a long road almost three years lol! funny, if you have big $$$ you probably can build a tk faster. I am on a budget being retired.

Our trucks are practically twins, right down to the rear end issues.

Re: 61K10 build
Mitch-storm was no problem, got about 5" of rain about 12 hrs and some big winds. only one tree came down across the creek at my neighbors. Of course it's hung up in my tree.
Brian--your tk is looking Good! Funny what a little paint will do. Got my rear end back together, haven't driven the tk yet as it's still raining here. What rear end problems are you having?

Re: 61K10 build
My truck was a mixture of Chevy and GMC parts, the rear end was a Dana 44. It needed completely rebuilt. I had trouble finding drums and axles and even finding a parts house who believed GMC trucks had a different rear end than Chevrolet back in 62. So I broke down and used a 12 bolt. I have to change the gear ratio in the front end. But that's in the future. I need a little break

Re: 61K10 build
I would of went with 3.38's and built a whole new rear third member, but the front dana44 the closest r&p is 3.31. (a little far apart) running 31-10.50's with a 30-10.50 or 9.50 in the ft would get me within 1%. suppose to be clear tomorrow? We will see if the rear make noise.
bhc--do you have a build thread?

Re: 61K10 build
Well----------the new/old third member is in and much better as in quiet. Seems the trans has a problem, should have rebuilt it when it was out lol! will rebuild the pto as it's weeping some. also ordered a new steering box as the used old one seems to have a bunch of play. Should of not bought a used one for $40. you get what you pay for.
Merry Xmas-----------

Re: 61K10 build
Considering what you have accomplished on this beauty so far, the tranny and the steering box are relatively minor issues. Truck looks awesome bud!!

Re: 61K10 build
Glad you are back on the road. Even if it's just temporary. What's the issue with the trans?

Re: 61K10 build
Mitch--The trans makes a worley sound at about 35-40 mph only in 4th gear? Kinda like a bad speedo cable if that makes sense.
Got my new steering box. $$$ little thing, must be the alum. cover. also got a new helper named Stanley-----

Now that steering gear box the same? your not gonna have any pitman arm issues or problem lining that back up? By the way what did you do with the original one? Have you had the cover off the SM420 tranny yet? And are you sure it's not the T221? Reason, I say that because most SM420's are problem matic in 1st / 2nd syncro's. But someone could have changed them up on you.. I got a rebuild kit at http://www.novak-adapt.com/ for a couple $$.

Re: 61K10 build
Is that a quick ratio gearbox or standard ratio?

Re: 61K10 build
Mitch--it only does it in 4th gear. It's really a strange sound. It's the org box and never been apart. time for a rebuild. steering box is the same as the old one. (4x4 box)
Jason-- It's a variable ratio 12-16 not the quick one 12-1 didn't want to be too quick. Don't think i will be auto-crossing it any time soon lol! couldn't find much info for a 4x4 with a Q-box, guess i could have called.

Re: 61K10 build
Mitch-- I used precision for the windshield, the door w/s are honda. do a search for precision, got mine cheaper than most venders. I will see if i can find out where i bought mine. read the thread about the Honda door w/s as i posted a pic.
did you rebuild your 420 yourself? any special tools? Pimpston65--hope your s/box is better than mine--your sure right about parts from everywhere.

Re: 61K10 build
The Novak rebuild kit comes with a instruction guide. Gear puller, hammer, good screw driver and some pliers will pretty much do it maybe a press if needed. Plus, if you do need a 4th gear, ebay has 'em pretty cheap. You won't have a problem doing it yourself especially after that rear end rebuild you did.
