Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
We got the new body bushing kit from Wes and it now sits up much higher. The bracket I'm running along side the valve covers is still hitting the firewall so I'm going to find a different solution to routing the wires.
If anybody is on the fence of getting poly mounts or the ones made from Wes, do yourself a favor and go with the latter. I forgot to take a pic when I was at the shop earlier of the wires hitting the fire wall but I have some other progress pics Mounted the top to align doors, etc. and began repair work on many cracks (more than I originally thought). The windows have this aftermarket tint, but I'm going to remove it and leave it with the factory green tint.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
The drivers side door towards the fender has an abnormal gap (maybe material missing? ) I made indentation marks where you can see the gap that I'm referring to. Other than this area the gaps are eve. We're kind of puzzled as to what gives.
driver door fender side driver door other side. This lines up good here. Pass side lines up perfect.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Thumbs up Mike. I'm at a loss to explain the gap - maybe the door edge got slightly tweaked? I'd probably never notice it - will be lost in the beauty of the remainder.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Thanks Brad. We're starting to move. They want it out of the shop as much as I want to be driving it so we have motivation on both sides now!
Yeah, that could be. You can actually feel where the gap is and it sort of fades in like material was shaved off. I went back to look for an old pic and I can see the same size gap from before I tore it all apart. If they can't make any better by the weekend, I'm just going to say the hell with it. We're trying to get the exterior painted this week.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Well, this has been a long time coming. I couldn't believe my eyes at first. I'll be taking it back to my place after the weekend and start putting everything back together. They have one final step of polishing left to do so I'm going to have to wait until Monday. I was really hoping to have it back for this weekend.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Finally, the K5 made it home! It's a little tight but I'll make it work. It has been, what feels like, the longest two years of my life. I'm really excited to get back to it and this is going to be the most fun part of the build.
While all this time in limbo, I would often think of making subtle changes or mods here and there out of boredom. So when the K5 was getting painted I had them do a few pieces to match. Sent the emblem out to get re-chromed. Only broke one of the tabs and was able to fold the rest back over.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Been making a little bit of progress.
1. Installed a vibration damper (CLD) using Second Skin Damplifier Pro and then on then added another layer using their MLV noise barrier Luxury Liner Pro. The CLD was easy to install but the MLV stuff could be a little messy if you're not careful. 2. Instrument Panel installed. Had my original unit rebuilt by member Tom (TBONE1964) and added the factory tach. 3. Radio, Ashtray and AC control and heater box inside the cab.

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
I've been researching the speaker location for blazers and have found there are "three locations" 1) under the dash (connected to AC controls) 2. Some Blazers have on top of the dash like the pick up if you have the center vent 3. Allegedly if you had rear side panels there was one behind the pass side seat.
#3 is out regardless if that is correct.. I think mine might have originally come with the top of dash bc I have have the center vents for the speaker. Does anyone have any pics of how this is mounted if it is supposed to be top dash mounted style?

Can anyone help me identify these parts? The plastic piece inside the cowl and whatever is coming out from it. close up pics of inside the cowl would be super helpful. Thanks

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
The Factory Assembly Manual refers to the L Shape tube as a "shaft" (#21) in the diagram. I found the metal piece ( also referred to as crank from others on here) that slides into the shaft and attached via a screw. (#3) "Cap" and (#4) "Bearing" stated in the diagram is where I am lost.
The Spring (#2) Looks like it attaches to the top side of the cowl and the other end connects to something, I have no idea what, shown here in the diagram (#1) Valve ASM at the bottom right corner. What does this "Cap" (#3) look like? Is it available? Are there alternative options? What about the "Bearing" (#4) Is it available? Are there alternative options? Appreciate any help from the board. Thanks!
