Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Just finished installing a new water pump. Old one was quite wobbly. Thought I'd tackle it before it starts leaking or the fan decides to go thru my radiator.

Pulled out the old crappy carpet and laid down some POR15, sound deadener, and new carpet. Now my seat looks like crap so that will be my next project.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Made the dolly for my bed. And painted the passenger side of the frame. Doing this one outside so I have to wait on the weather. Talked to two dustless blasters the cheapest was 600 $ to blast the inside of the bed and back half of the frame. Not happening , sanded acid etch then epoxy prime . PPG urethane black top coat ,it works for a driver. Do the rest on the next nice day. Going to do the trailing arm and link bushings when they come in so I'll do the rear and arms then off the truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

spent the last 2 days putting a clutch in mine. Yes, those of you who frequently do clutches probably could have done it in a few hours. We spent about 4 hours trying to get the old pilot bushing out, then had problems with the ball stud in the bell housing and the spring that clips it to the clutch fork. Had a good friend scrounge those parts up from stuff they had laying around at the house. Then didn't get the Hurst shifter stick back in correctly, and it took another hour or so to figure that simple fix out. The truck is back home with no passenger side exhaust as we took that apart to give us room, and didn't have replacement collector bolts or a gasket at 9:00 last night. That was an adventure to drive it with open exhaust! I'll button that up today and be completely done.

Removed a previous owners' "ford solenoid mod" and a bunch of non-functioning or redundant electrical garbage, while overhauling the whole system. Not the most fun way to spend your weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I went out to the shop to move the truck out so to move another one in and found this. It's an old tire but was still holding air so I've waited to replace it. It was good enough for a roller.
Guess I'll be ordering another tire now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Still a few components I can add yet, but for the most part "phase 1 of 3" is done.

Failed on the first valve cover gaskets, they were too thin, and I perhaps I blew it expecting the body/paint guy to flatten out the valve covers. Where there's a will there's a way, I ended up flattening the surfaces yesterday. Pillows, hammers and straight edges got her done cleanly. I ordered Moroso gaskets, which are basically 4-5 X the cost. I don't mind spending $45 if it means no leaks. Hopefully they do the trick.

It's all on phase 2 now, which is body and paint, and I'm not doing much of either.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Installed the new valve covers & air cleaner I picked up at the Long Beach Collector Car Swap Meet last weekend. Also new plug wires. I think she cleaned up pretty good. Still a few more things to do until I'm happy with my recent purchase. I found the correct alternator mount at CPP so I need to get that installed. I also need to sort out the radiator mounting. I seem to have a 3 row radiator installed in the larger 4 row mounts.

Finally got my new radiator and got it fitted right away. The original brackets didn’t quite fit but longer bolts and some spacers got them to fit good.
