Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well just a quick update .
I spent some of the weekend getting the carport ready . The plan is to swop the chassis and the cab over . The chassis is in my garage , but with the bench and engine and tools in the garage there isn't enough room to work on the chassis . So I put up some shelving in the carport to store some of my parts . I then moved everything around ready to put the cab in the garage . Then I wil put the chassis into the carport and start painting and fitting all the new parts onto it . So Sunday morning I loaded up my car to take the old roof panel to Rian's as well as the inner rear section as Rian's has been cut to fit speakers , in case he wants to repair his . The roof will be stored at his due to him having a lot more space . If someone needs it we have it as it may get someone out of trouble . Rian doing a good impression of a tortoise So after next weekend I hope to have everything swapped over and make a start on the chassis

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well......... You guys can keep on looking.
I will be at Martin's place early on Saturday morning (maybe 08.00 to spare the neighbours some sleep) for the day. We need to swop his engine, gearbox, suspension, axle and chassis out of the garage, into the back yard, then get the cab out the carport, into the deep end of the garage, followed by engine, box etc....... Then get the chassis back into the carport, upside down with X-member attached (possibly removing it) onto axle stands, but also with the rear axle going in first, between his bikes and the chassis so that it is available to be fitted once the chassis is prepped and painted...... Are you keeping up?? If any UK guys want to join us, even for a while, later in the day to help move that chassis...... PM Martin or me Looks like things are going to start moving right along now for Martin.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well tonight I got home from work and made a start on tomorrow's task . First off I removed the cab from the carport on the trolley then I finished fitting my shelves .
I then fitted some hooks on the shelving , so I could hang the radio on the wall . Need to have some music on with all the late nights I will be doing All I need know is the chassis Well all ready for Rian and Ian tomorrow to get the chassis in the carport. Then the work can start . It will good to get the assembly underway . I ordered my paint from Frost for the chassis on Thursday 2 quarts of Por 15 grey for the chassis and I quart of black for the wishbones and axel and trailing arms .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
I tend to just put on the local radio station . So it's a varied mix of older tunes . But driving in the car then it's different depending on how quick you want to get somewhere. Then it tends to be more rock

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well Rian turned up at 8am . I was already up and waiting to get started . First we emptied the garage out read to move the chassis. With most of the usual stuff out of the way ie lawn mower, push bike tools and a V8 engine and box the stuff you kind of find in most garages. We moved the axel in first so it was the right end of the carport .
Max wondering why he just doesn't pick it up like a bone and carry it into the carport After moving the axel my stupid Rottweiler Bow decided to get on Rian's lap Next after Rian had finished cuddling the dog we moved the chassis into the garage using the skateboards again, sorry no pictures as it was heavy to move and take a picture at the same time . All in the carport ready for prep and painting Then just as we finished moving the chassis there was a knock at the front door , it was Ian coming over to help . His timing was perfect . Next job was to get the cab into the garage Well it fitted Rian took this picture of Ian I know he has a bit of wood in his hand and looks threatening but he isn't Once we got the cab into the garage we hung the doors for safe keeping as it's going to stay in there until I have prepped , painted and fitted all the new parts onto the chassis . So the next few months I intend to paint the chassis sandblast the front wishbones assemble the ball joints , clean up the axel and trailing arms then fit my new fuel tank and so on . So I guess I am going to be busy my main aim is too have a rolling chassis before we come out to the states in October So Keep Watching

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I got home this afternoon,to find that my paint had arrived . So I guess I will be starting on the chassis this weekend
At the cost of £100 or about $150 for these three tins .I hope there is enough with 2 x grey for the chassis 1 x gloss back for the suspension parts

Hope to use the grinder with the flap disc . If that isn't good enough,I will have to get my big sand blaster from Rian's house . Will be tackling this job at the weekend .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Posted in the What did you do today thread, but the amount of POR-15 you have should be plenty to coat your frame and chassis parts. You'll likely not even tap into the second grey can.
You might consider a POR-15 topcoat since the main coating is UV sensitive, and will dull/brown over time when exposed to sunlight. One can of the top coat should cover the frame pretty easily. |
