Re: My 1965 build thread

Top notch work as always Alan. I really enjoy seeing the work that you do.

One thing I thought I'd mention on mounting that radiator. Don't forget to check for clearance where the inner fenders bolt to the radiator support, and also check for interference with the battery tray. Some of those radiators are too wide to fit between there without modification to the inner fenders, and moving the battery tray over. You may have already thought of this, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

I also planned on using the gas tank straps to hold it in place. I want to use the old velvet and resin trick to smooth it out nice so it can be painted to match the interior. Haven't done it yet, but that is the plan anyways.
Thanks for an idea, I'll bounce it around. I need to get my seats mounted and see what kind of room I will have.

Thanks to you both. The guy that owns this Miata said in 1992 mazda actually used this color but never produced them.

Thanks again for pointing this out. I went and looked this morning and it does look too big to fit without modification. I haven't tried to mock it up yet. My inner fenders are at work right now they are almost ready for paint. I've got an idea of what I could do, but I'd like some influence from ya'll via pix. Here is what I've got right now. it doesn't really show much in the pic. it looks like I need 3-4" clearance on both sides. I wonder if I should just get another radiator???

On yeah, Miata status pic

i just cut about 3 inches out of the inner fender wells i used the stock lower mounts and used 67-72 top mounts it sits flush with the top of the core support and makes it look a lot nicer than the originalhttp://www.hotrodders.com/journal_ph...2307755161.jpg
i know its not a great picture ill have to take a better one when i get home

Do you have a home made battery box? Did you have interferrance (sp) with the battery tray? That radiator looks just like the one I have.

Re: My 1965 build thread

Alan, if you don't want to do all the modifications necessary to use that radiator, you could just get one of the universal aluminum radiators from Summit. The #380328 will fit without modding the inner fenders, but you will have to move the battery over. I believe that #380325 will fit without anny mods. ChiefRocka did a writeup when he did his but I think he used the #380324.....look in his build thread.

I remember him doing that and I have it saved somewhere. I'm really undecided on what to do. The easiest thing to do is get the radiator your talking about. That cost $$ which I don't have. I got this radiator at a pretty good deal, but I might just sell it and move on. My inner fenders are rady to be blocked and painted. I'd hate to mess that up.

This is what I mocked up today just to get a visual of what needs to be done.

Today I was also able to mock the bed up to check a few things.

I like the stance, I got a stiffy

I'm kind of digging the rally wheel look. Just paint the wheels the color that is on the frame.

Left side tire clearance. There is a little more than it looks, but I think I will roll the lip. The axle is centered in the frame.

Rt side

That does sit good Alan. I think rallys on these trucks are pretty hard to beat, but with all of the little(and big) custom touches, you need just a little Just my $.02, but I'm sure whatever direction you go will be a solid choice.

Re: My 1965 build thread

Just to clarify the intent of my last post--I wasn't meaning 20-plus inch rims and such. I was thinking of some nice polished aluminum 17's to kinda go with the custom theme of the truck. Again, this is just my opinion and I know it will look good no matter what Alan decides.
