Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
finally!
first coat second coat (was dark outside, so the paint looks wetter and darker but its not) i think it came out pretty good, not show quality but im happy with it! the filler really shows through the primer, like it soaked it up or something... will start wetsanding either tomorrow night or friday night, then shoot the paint over the weekend

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
I am not a paint expert but should you consider sealer since the primer did that with the filler? It seals everything to prevent it from coming through in your final paint...maybe ask the question on the paint forum?

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
good point..i believe this primer can be thinned for a sealer too. im not sure if i should though because the paint im using is valspar tractor paint (acrylic enamel) and it lays pretty thick. i plan on spraying 2 coats..but i think i will see if one of the paint guys chime in to make sure!

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
well..i will probably wait on the paint on this thing. i think i will work on the insides of my fenders and maybe try to paint those and see if they have any problems showing through. sucks because i really wanted it painted so i could something one off the list, but i guess its gonna have to wait!

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
I know the feeling. I feel like I'm doing stuff, but getting nothing accomplished. So many little things about 75-80% completed, but I get bored or frustrated on something, and move to a different task, instead of finishing....
Maybe there's something to be said about that whole A.D.D. thing.... What was I talking about again? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
i know exactly what you mean!
i started on the fenders today to get the insides primed and painted..then i started sanding the outside again lol..oh it never ends. i figured i might as well sand down the outside of the fenders too and get the whole truck in the same brand epoxy (i used an omni brand the first time on the front clip)...and of course they need body work. so...is it really worth painting the insides now...? good thing i have the entire week off from work

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
bad news..after sanding down my fenders..i think i might toss the passenger side fender.
this is the fender i did A LOT of work on, welding 2 seperate fenders to make and welded in a new lower cup. well, this was when i first started trying to weld..and use filler. it seems this thing may be warped beyond repair as i loaded filler on it and attempted to smooth it out and it was fine for then. im gonna sand down the entire area to knock off all the filler and see what i can do..maybe i can cut the front cup off and rear patch area and see if i can find a buyer and put that towards a different fender? i would just rather not use this one but i guess we can see what happens...

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
lol...i know i know. im hoping i find a really really cheap original that someone could help me out with locally, but i guess well see.
i also might change the final color to white..since im doing my own body work. the interior, firewall, and inside fenders/under hood will still be black, if i go this route.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
been working on my fenders lately..heres a pic for motivation.
i just slapped the fenders on with the core support and grill. i started with the driver fender which is my good one..sanded it down. also made some clearance for my wheels...they were sittiting practically on my tire..now i have about a 2" clearance. i have to keep my stock hinges..and also when the motor goes in it will drop it more. right now my arms are about 1 1/2" off the ground, so i will have an extra .5" of clearance if i did my math right. i used a tig rod to get the roundness of the curve so the edge wont be so sharp

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
and heres the frankenfender im working with. shaved up the emblems holes yesterday, im actually proud of measurements i took when i first did the splice, some of the mounting holes are only off by about 1/8".
took off all of the filler, and im gonna actually try to hammer and dolly and splice some more to get it right, not just load it with filler!

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
If I remember correctly, the hinges are going to hit the tires. I had the same exact setup you had and they just kissed the tires. You may have to trim the hinges a little.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
Looks good man! I love home-garage builds. Always a greater feeling of accomplishment. Not always perfect, but thats not what it's about. It's about having fun, friends, building YOUR project, and learning along the way. I'd rather roll my Burb with a few flaws here and there, knowing I did it. Instead of driving something I paid someone else to do.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
looking good so far....if u go 22's, i think u'll have to move the hinges in from the fender...i run 20's and it hits...in fact, when i bought my burb, there were no hinges....i had to "tape" the hood shut..pretty ghetto i know...now it's forward tilt and problem solved

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!
^^ actually yes..lol
heres the set i have in my shed, buddy of mine had them on a 2006 altima. they are 22x8.5, so im gonna need some adapters to make them fit. not much progress really. good news is i did find a passenger fender finally. its aftermarket but oh well, tired of this holding me up. i sanded down the gallon of bondo they had around the reflector area. they did a horrible job shaving up the reflector hole, so i cut it back out and welded it up right, i just warped it a little lol. banged some out and shot it in primer. also sanded down the core support and grill and also got that sprayed. so the whole clip minus the hood is in epoxy waiting on the body work.
