Re: 68 S/C update.....

Looking pretty good.....
Definetly need some awesome brakes to stop that beast.

What kit did you buy? as I have to do my four wheel disc ASAP as my truck has way too much power and a fast driver for the factory new brake system to stop it...It is ok if just cruising but if I get on it takes a little more road to stop.

Al, I used the same kit that I put on the Suburban, it's the CPP 13" front (with modular spindles) and their 12" rear setup. I am using their MCPV-1 master cylinder also.

Have you driven your truck since you did the brakes ? What's your opinion of the modular spindle ? Any mods that you had to do to use them ? Did they (the spindles ) change the wheel centerline any ? Any other thoughts .... I am looking into spindles and brake options for my 68 swb that I am building .
Appreciate it as always !

I still have to put the front spindles on (this weekend) and re-run my new lines when they show up. So it will probably be some time next week.... I did get my rear end cover today, .

Thanks! I've got the rear axle lines made. I also had Inline tube build me a longer line to go from the frame to the axle. Just need to install the front lines, line-lock and then bleed eveyrthing....

I had been looking for a nice SWB 68 truck to be my "daily driver" while I'm finishing up a few other projects and this one met 90% of the criteria that I was looking for in a truck.

The first few pictures are of the truck when I first purchased it. It is an extremely solid, minimal rust, original paint truck. It came with a sweet 630 TQ/622 HP 383 Stroker motor with a Vortech Supercharger, Sid Neal TH350 and a 3.08 posi. While the motor/tranny seemed to be bullet proof, the suspension was not...... It had the original suspension that the previous owner cut and heated the coils to lower it. The ride was terrible and it felt unsafe when you would hit any bumps. So the suspension was the first thing that I tackled. It also had a fuel cell and battery mounted in the bed, This along with some super wide tubs, pretty much rendered the bed useless. So battery and tank will be removed and placed in their propper location, . Here's a list of updates that I have completed and some of the other stuff I plan on updating.

Exterior:
New front/rear bumpers - Done
New halogen headlights - Done
New LED tail lights - Done
Repaint emblems - Done
New "Custom" door emblems - Done
Installed factory mirrors - Done
New front and rear CST side marker lights with bulbs – Done
Remove battery from bed and put back under the hood - Done
Remove fuel cell from bed - Done!
Install under bed FuelCellGuy 18 gal fuel tank - Done!
Sandblast the inside of the bed and do a spray in liner = Done!
Install a super trick fuel filler/door - Done
Install stainless steel vent shades - Done
New Billet Specialties Vintec Dish wheels with spinners!
Fronts: 18x8, 5" BS, 28-10 M/T SR
Rears: 20x12, 7" BS, 31-16 M/T SR

Front suspension:
Install Front 1 1/16th sway bar with poly bushings and lowered brackets - Done
Install Eibach 2" drop springs - Done
KYB lowered shocks – Done
Rebuild front 73-87 A-arms (poly bushings and new ball joints) - Done
Install McGhauey's 73-87 2 1/2" dropped spindles - Done
New front rotors, bearings and brakes - Done
Uninstall previous spindles/rotors/calipers and upgrade to CPP 13" rotors/dual piston calipers/2" forged spindles)

Motor:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=370973

Probably not, but it's something to shoot for, .

Well the brakes are finally done. I can already tell a big difference with just the little bit of driving I have done (I can feel the 4.10 gear pretty well too, ). I will probably bleed them one more time and I want to do a little adjusting with the built in proportioning valve, but I'm really impressed with this CPP big brake kit and their aliminum mastercylinder with the built in proportioning valve. I'm going to get the front end aligned tomorrow and drive it for a little while before do anything else. I also got my line-lock wired up. I found a cool way to wire it while searching online. It uses a switch and a relay that allows the horn button to activate the line lock when the switch is flipped. Since I no longer have a floor shifter to mount the switch to, I thought this would be the most practical and cleanest way to do it. Here's the write-up I used: http://www.cherod.com/mustang/HowTo/LineLock.htm
