Where is the fuel pump relay getting its power from?

Does not have a relay. Could not find a relay wire kit at auto stores. It is comming from my fuse box under dash in an ignition power spot. Then goes to a fuse then switch then to pump. It only requires a 7.5 amp fuse. I am going to get it a relay some time. Not sure if it will do any thing for my problem or not. I looked at my psi gauge and at high idle it was 6 and after i got home from work with light and heat on and volt gauge reading under 13 it was still a 6psi. Guess it does not matter if the pump is going fast or slow the reg will still only put out 6 right now. Will set float level and idle mix again this week end if i have a chance due to having diff fuel psi then when carb was first installed. Sadly still has hesitation...Did not think pump would fix it tho.

That is a whole bunch of the voltage fluctuation problem. The fuel pump needs as much voltage as you can give it and coming out of the fuse box it doesn't get much and the amps are low too.

Find a front wheel drive donor rig that has one of the oval shaped weather-pak style 30-amp electric fan relays with a long 10-gauge power wire. Early 90's or so. Take all the wire you can get out of the donor rig along with the relay so you don't have to splice the main power supply wire.

Run the power supply wire for it through a 30-amp breaker and connect that directly to the battery. The breaker will trip if grounded out but reset when the problem is corrected so you won't get stranded by a blown fuse.

Mount it as close to your fuel pump as you can get it so the smaller gauge feed wire from the relay to the fuel pump is as short as possible.

Thanks for the info i will save for the painless fuel pump kit. The pump says to use a 7.5 amp fuse. Does it matter on the amp rating or should i just get a 7.5 amp breaker?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

since you're not running efi your fuel pump isn't as big of an issue. I plan on running mine wired direct to an ign lead on my Painless Circuit Boss....which is fused, breakered, and relayed.

That is one fancy circuit boss. My only has ign port with no fuse or relay. I do have it fuesed and switched so it can be shut off if i need to sit with the key on engine off for some reason. I would still like to put a relay so i can get power direct from the batt connection and have it come one with key. I am not that worried about it any more due to fuel psi staying the same all the time.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Got to install my sensor adapters today. Forgot my dang oil psi sensor at the house tho...dang it. Moved plug from passenger side head to driver side head then installed coolant sensor in the pass head. Looks cleaner i think. Also checked plugs in old motor and reset idle mix and float levels.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well after readjusting my idle mix and float level i drove it to work today and seems to me the problem with the hesitation is compleatly gone... Kind of funny. Not sure why or how it is compleatly gone. But it is. Still does not have any more power on the hiway after like 65 if you put some throttle in to it. Maybe my secondarys are not opening due to the heavy spring i put in it. Oh well. If it stays how it is i will be happy. At least tell i put motor in.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well i got oil and filter today. Got 6 qts of valvolines finest and one ac delco filter. Talked to my bro and we are all set for this friday. If the boss will give me the time off that is. Ran all over town to try to find a 3inch to 2.5 inch reducer and could not come up with any thing. So i will be going to my exhaust shop to see what he can do for me. Want to get the flandges welded on with short reduceres so i can get rest of exhaust welded on.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I need some that do not have a 3 bolt flandge on it. The ones summit sells are 26 bucks. I can go to autozone and get some with slip on flanges for 20 if my exhaust shop can not work something out for me. Dang pepboys had one 3 to 2.5 reducer and that is it. A 2.75 inch pipe goes in side my v band clamp like a glove. Maybe they can take a 2.5 pipe and expand it to that size.
