Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side
Sickman thanks lots of work cutting, weld and filling with a hand file. The doors are band new Amd and when we put them on the truck the doors would not close because the top hoops where taller than the cab! We ended up using the hoops on the old door and welding then into the new doors…

Next we test fit the bed and fenders. This was the first time we got to see the trucks stance. I’m really happy with it the way it looks. The first 2 pictures are with it all down and the second 2 are it at ride height.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side
We are almost caught up to present day on the project and then unfortunately the progress will slow some. My wife picked a name for the project. Percy She said it’s sound kind of like persistence. After 10 years of work on this thing I liked it. Plus it kind of sounds like a older gentleman‘s name. Haha
But Sunday we did a little work on the inside of the cab. My daughter was there to help me out some. We welded up all the old holes around the back window and put it in Apoxsee primer.

I got the summit frame stiffener in this weekend and it’s really nice. Here are a couple pictures of it. I can not wait to get it installed

We finished welding up all the old holes in the floor and kick panels this weeken and got it all sealed up with Apoxsee in Pitt Guard. It’s nice seeing all 1 color!

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side
I always wanted the bed floor to open so I could hide the gas tank, batteries, air management… at first I wanted it to split in the middle and open like French doors but The design became too cumbersome. I changed direction and cut out all the old stuff and started over with a simpler one piece opening design. Dad and I had had a helper in the shop. Pappa is 93 and he can still not site still so we put him to work!

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side
To make the bed floor open I wanted something easy. I have Completely over thought this before. So we did some thinking and a couple small projects to see how the front part of the door would swing and how much clearance the .75 inch wood would need. I think we got it figured out but there where a couple elevated discussions between dad and I. Haha. Now to make it happen. The placement of the pivot bolt made it impossible to use the drill press to drill it so we had to improvise. We pre drill it with I a few different size bits then finish it off with a step bit. It worked great. Then I welded it some sleeves and bolted it up.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side
Next step is to get some Electric actuators to open it.
