Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Put a neck fuel tank filler neck in mine cause the old one split in half...and in the process did this to my hand... somehow cut about a 1/2 inch deep in my hand...the new darn tanks are sharp.

Ouch! I 've lost count of how many times I've done something like that.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Sorry that happened to you. Did you replace the filler neck, or the hose? I just replace my tank, hose, and filler neck. Not fun.

I replaced the tank a few months ago and was nuts enough to use the old filler hose..worked fine till I started smelling gas in the cab every time fuel was put in..I started wondering and realized the hose split...so I got a new one..and no more leaks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
First I took part in the inaugural Hot Rod One Hundred Reliability Run in Phoenix and then I hauled a load of hay to the barn in the afternoon. Put the first 150 miles on the new motor today. Very happy. It ran great. A little rich in the mid-range and a slight hesitation at high rpm but it goes on the dyno in two weeks after I get the first 500 miles on it. I babied it all day but I am more than happy that even at low rpms I am as quick as any other car on the road and being able to cruise at 75mph doesn't suck in the least.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
started the day out with a killer 5 mile hike around mt. St Helena, came home and unloading the engine hoist from the flatbed, moved the original 8' bed to the main shop to start body work, snapped a picture cuz i just loved the look of the trucks stance at that moment. called the machine shop to get quoted on a price to bore the cylinders .030 over on the SB for the 65. ended on a good note with sanding on the bed, and going for a short cruise round town.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Easter weekend we have the truck and teardrop on display at the Chatham Docks at the Steam and Traction show.
So today I cleaned the outside, and Nicola cleaned the inside as well as the galley kitchen. Every time we do something with this trailer, the madness of the build makes us both grin madly. I cleaned the truck, tyres and tonneau cover as well. Even the side pipes got a fresh coat of matt black, so now we are ready to Rock n Roll. This should be the trucks last outing before the teardown begins in earnest. Looking forward to it already.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Hope you have fun at the event. So how far down are you tearing the truck, and do you have an estimated time frame before it's back in service?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Installed front shock mounts and shocks. Fab up some rear shock mounts but haven't bolted rear shocks on yet.
Here is a fun note: 62s have 7/16 20 lug nuts and not 12x1.5. I made this mistake and almost lost a wheel during a test drive. Luckily, the 12x1.5 were aluminum so I didnt damage the studs. ...now i just need to finish up some wiring (head lights and turning signals), figure out what's going on with my fuel pressure, change the rear brake cylinders/pads and cobble together an air management system. The plan is to take her maiden voyage to a car show this coming Saturday. ...fingers crossed... |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
tore down my 60-66 chev/ gmc/? my friends just simply call it mater. i put another grill, splash pan/ bumper, pas finder on after someone ran a red light and i t boned them, but the truck never drove right after that .
found out why the frame was pushed over it was hard to tell with the front clip on it so now its on its way to becoming a short bed. sent my 292 out to the machine shop on friday and bought a ac system. ill be glad when im back on the road i already miss my truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Applied Southern Polyurethanes Inc. (SPI) epoxy primer with a spray gun. I've applied it with a roller before and while that worked, the sprayer does a nicer job. A lot more prep time and cleanup time when using a sprayer, but I gotta learn how if I'm ever gonna finish this truck.

Plan is a sensible cosmetic make over. No cab off. However the load body needs to come off for completeness as I am replacing the plywood bed with those strips of Oak that Mickey the neighbour brought home from that office teardown they did. I guess fenders, hood and doors as well. Desperately want new chrome/ally side trim too as mine is all damaged but need to watch the budget.
