I think I have, too. I saw the SPID. I didn't realize, or forgot because I never see them, that Cummins did a 225hp V8 back then. I think I did know there was a Cummins option, just assumed it was an I-6.

I thought we had seen examples before. (at least in the C-60 series) of intentional "under rating "

It looks over 26,000 to me.

If he registered it that way, it doesn't sound right to me, unless Alaska is different on it.

Check out the GVW tag the next time you are there.

Not listed directly on the SPID, but the rear axle number looks to me to be a 18k? Is that how the model # works?

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Not sure, but even if it was a low of 18, it looks like the Fronts are 9, which would give it a 27. My 7500 had 9 Fronts and 22 Rears. My best guess would be pretty close to the same, especially being a Road Tractor. But as mentioned the GVW tag would tell us for sure, if you ever have a chance to get back to it.

Many of the newer Mediums (approx early 90's and newer) were made to be as heavy as they could but yet under CDL, but before then many would go over. I don't ever remember a 7500 under CDL (26,000 or lighter).

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

We just bought a bunch of Freightliner M2-112's. The trucks are spec'ed out basically the same as a 33,000# GVW model, but have smaller tires to limit them to 26,000#'s. That way anyone can drive them, but they are more durable than a regular 26,000# truck.

Back to the truck in question, the V-series Cummins were in GM trucks for a number of years, though not too common. Probably most often seen in Fords, but I saw a few in Dodge heavies. Funny thing about those Cummins V-8's (there was a V-6 version too) was that Cummins tried to sue GM over the Toro-Flow because of them:

My single axle flatbed bed is also a 7500 (chevy 70) with a weight tag under 26000.....it came without a glove box door, so no SPID....

What does the GVW Tag actually say? Along with the Front and Rear Axle Weights.

An older H-70 with a GVW of only 25,500?

But there's the proof.

Good thing I didn't bet on it, lol.

Welcome tto the site and how cool is that for you to be showing up with this fine trucks as yours. Looks like you got yourself quite a nice truck there. I bet you're right about the wiring for the 2spd. If not that, maybe moisture got to it and a disassembly, clean, lube would do it.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

I've been out on the road delivering for my company recently & have spotted this truck twice. There is no for sale sign on it, but if one shows up, I will be checking on it. I know it's a '60-'66, but it is a looker.

Nice truck.

Sheet Metal looks great.

It's a '66 by the way.

Glad to see these old heavies have a following. I hate to see instrumental vehicles like these get ignored.

I think it's a Blazer also. Very far left of the photo. Looks like it has a windshield with no roof.

Here is a pic of my friends 1971 GMC 5500, it lives in Texas. 59K original miles.
Visited it last week, 350 5 speed, exceptionally nice interior.
