[QUOTE=kustombrad;5409318]Gonna be making a big road trip shortly, so I'll let everyone know what kind of mileage it gets! Decided to take the Leadfoot off the doors last weekend because I got tired of questions aimed at the local speed shop! Now it's aimed a little more towards me and what I do

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Yep, a little variegated gold leaf! If the paint would have been nicer I probably would have done some burnished 23 karat but this has the old vibe and works fine!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
You are very talented my friend. I have always loved the look of gold leaf.
I also dig the drop shadow behind "Brad King's". Good luck on the road trip....keep us posted. Marc

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Just a quick update on the '49...
'Ol Brad drove the truck from So Cal to Oregon to go to his daughter's graduation from Oregon State (way to go, Alissa!!). The drive was around 950 miles, and the '49 performed flawlessly. A true testament to just how well this truck was put together. He plans on hitting the Billetproof show in Chehalis, WA next Saturday, so if you're in the area go to the show and say hi. If you're in the central western Oregon and you're looking to get some striping work done in the upcoming week, call him up! He's got all of his striping stuff with him. Just passing on the info.......

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Not for nuthin', but if he has the business name on the truck, could be a write-off. Would be a kick if he came out net zero on this. Awesome truck!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Made it to Washington state! Other than a couple little hiccups it was a pretty uneventful trip. 70-75mph the whole trip and bucking a massive headwind, I still got 16.5 miles per gallon! Billetproof in Chahallis this Saturday!

I took the wipers off when the wind was blowing so hard it was trying to rip them off the truck!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Hi Don, first of all thank you for sharing your build, ideas and wisdom. I am restoring a 48' Chevy and boy am I excited after seeing your build. I have a 73 camaro subframe that I will cut and weld this weekend. On the rear end, did you keep the original leaf springs? If not what did you use? What hangers did you use? And what process did you follow?

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Hey Jesse thanks for the kind words! On page 2 or 3 of this build I showed what I used in the back. The rear suspension is all TCI, hangers and all. It's pretty basic and works very well!

Nice to see it on the road. You really need to come by on your next trip to Idaho. I will cut you some slack for allowing your daughter to go to Corvallis, I grew up in Eugene!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
This was something I got to work on a couple months ago and probably the coolest thing ever! Was asked by Chip Foose along with 2 other stripers to help in Carsland at Disneyland! Here's myself on the left, Dennis Ricklefs, Jeff Styles, Chip and Carson Lev (Chip's marketing guy) when we first went and did our walk through!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
I survived the washout that Billetproof 2012 was! What a rainy mess...Ugh! Was a bunch of fun talking to fellow HAMBers and checking out some of the cool rides even in the lousy weather. Went to the cruise night in Centralia and I must say I'm jealous. *****in' downtown with lots of great shops and places serving "adult" beverages! LOTS of great cars and trucks showed up once the weather cleared and even more people showed up to watch. Had the idiots in the imports trying to be cool and race but the "Man" put an end to those morons! I was lucky enough to get a great parking spot across from the Olympic Pub (Awesome place to check out!!) and hung out 'till well after 1 am! The guy having the most fun at the cruise was low buck Corey in his '62 "Short Bus" who was charging $1 a ride and it was packed the entire time! I HAD to go and took the pic when he dropped a group back at the fairgrounds. Great guy who was very creative and made a really cool and REALLY cheap (he has like $700 in the whole thing!) driver that everyone had a ball in! What a fun day!!

Brad, How was the wind noise all that way at hiway speeds?

Let me know when, I may be going down to my Sisters place near Lakeview in the last half of August. Do have some flexibility if I know in advance.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Is the Carlsbad thing a Cars themed car based ride (like the motor rama I remember from a trip to Disneyland in the 60's)?

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
The headwind between Sacramento and Redding was awful! Was probably 40mph (easy) and was all I could do to keep the truck on the road! I took the wipers off because it was trying to rip them off the truck, so needless to say that part was no fun! Without the wind it's pretty quiet inside, but it was a little noisy then.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
No, Carsland is based on the movie "Cars" by Pixar a few years back.
