Really great progress! I like the idea of the custom ID tag so any shop can figure out what you have when you are out on the road (or in case you forget what part you used where, hahaha.)

A little more progress tonight. I got the tail lights all hooked up and working, got the brake switch and the torque converter lockup switch (an the same switch) wired up. That's about it for tonight.

Aftermarket 5-lug rear axles the right width for your current rear end or a complete 5-lug rear end out of a square body 1/2-ton 2wd.

Depends upon the year of your truck and if you have trailing arms or leaf as to what is easier and less expensive.

It might be less expensive to just buy a broke square body 1/2-ton truck and pull the front suspension crossmember out of it to take care of the 5-lug front disc while you are at it. You could always put your old 6-lug stuff on the square body and sell it off to recover most of your investment.

I figured out the blinkers. I missed a wire to the ignition switch that powered the turn signals, radio, and A/C....

So now I believe I am legal to drive!!!! Unfortunately it is going to turn rainy this week and my windshield is still not sealed correctly. I have to work a bunch this week any ways (OT will help pay for some more stuff maybe ) Hopefully I'll get the windshshield fully installed the next week.

In the mean time I got my second skin "damplifier" to install, and the carpet is on it's way. So I'll get that in as well as the rest of my seats.

I don't think the Impala axles are the right width to use them.

I don't know if the Impala rotors require you to turn down the axle flange like the smaller rotors do but with the in hat drum parking brakes they probably will fit unmodified axles.

Well it hasn't been raining this week like they called for, and I ended up getting off at regular time......so I drove the truck on the road!!!!!!!!!!!

Overally it drove great. It rattled like no other with the one piece windows just sitting in place with rags to keep the from rattleing too much (I lost the upper seals at some point). And the trans cover wasn't bolted in, and just bare metal interior. On the road I didn't get on it real hard, but when I did give it a little gas, it seamed pretty quick. The steering is very light (if I remember right the gear box is off the 3/4 ton parts truck). I had a bunch of tools in the cab, so I didn't get on the brakes real hard, but they're difinatly working.

I logged the whole test drive with my laptop, and all of the numbers looked good. No knock retard and the fuel trims looked nice.

A couple of things to do. The speedometer is WAY off. It's an programable electric one, so I need to program it. Also, I need to change the gear ratio and tire size in the tune. At really low speeds the transmission isn't shifting like it should cause the computer is a little confused....no biggy though.

Now the bad news. After I got home I started working on some stuff and noticed a liquid on the ground. Turns out its antifreeze, so it looks like the water pump probably needs replaced. I didn't investigate real close, but that's what I'm assuming it is (I didn't have any cooling issues on my drive).

After the test drive I got a little work done on the truck. I removed the ECM mounting plate and trimmed it so my foot doesn't catch on it. Then I bolted in the transmission hump, installed the pass. side mirror, re-mounted the fuse block and started installing the sound deadener.

A little more progress. I got the window seals in so now the glass doesn't rattle around like it used to. I still need to get the adhesive to glue the one piece window glass into the track.

I got the water pump changed out, no leaks any more!

I got half of the cab lined with sound deadener. I'm using second skin....it's supposed to be good stuff.



I went for a test drive again yesterday.....with the window seals in place and the trans cover bolted in place the rattles were a lot tamer. Still have some stuff to work on.

I got the speedo calibrated, and while I was out, I got on it a little more than the first time. I went around one corner, and punched it going about 20 (maybe 3/4 throttle) and lit up the tires . It's still pretty loud between the windshield not being fully installed, no sound deadener at the time, and no carpet. That will all change shortly.

So tomorrow is Ethan's 1st B-day. So to celebrate we took the truck out for our first family cruise.

I got the seats all installed on Friday night. The test drive started out bumpy. The belt was squeaking and skipping, so I was going to the parts store to replace it. Well as I was driving, it came off and was split in half. Luckily my wife was in the car behind me cause I needed an anchor for the car seat too.

So I got a new belt and an anchor, and off we went for a cruise.

Took it out on the highway. It's pretty quiet at 60 with all of the sound deadener, carpet, and mellow exaust. There was quite a bit of wind noise from the one piece windows. Also, with the smoothed cowl, and no HVAC, after a half hour and being in a jacket it was getting a little warm inside. But overall it ran great.

So here's what you've all been waiting for (well maybe some of you )
