Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
Yeah. He said I did a beautiful job on the voltage regulator - right up to the moment I forgot to sand the paint off the wheel well so the ground wire could actually do its job.
Mac.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
Took the truck back to the electrical repair shop this morning.
Dash lights don't work. Right turn signal (dash) indicator doesn't work. Dome light flickers - despite brand new headlight switch. Dash battery load gauge doesn't work. Steering wheel cocked about 45 degrees after horn repair. Mac's money on this repair: 100% good. Vendor's success on this repair: 75% good. I'm beginning to think that I should really research our SoCal Members for these kind of repairs on my vehicle, as the supposedly high-caliber repair facilities in my area are just turning out to be the same old "tell-em what they want to hear" shops. Mac.

I used eddingsengine.com to build my motor, despite being all the way up in San Fernando and was blown away by their old school attitude (you know, actually doing what they committed to?) and realistic price structure, and that's what I'm looking for in everything else on the this truck and my 65' Chevelle Malibu.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
Thanks Jason - it's amazing how little items can be overlooked and not missed until you fix them.
The wiper arms and blades are an example: Had to put a socket over the driver's side drive shaft and gently pull on it with a 1/2" drive ratchet. Got it back to nearly stock and now the blade doesn't lift off the wind shield. Don't know how you'd bend one of those shafts - but it came to me like that in 2003, from the P/O. Come on rain! Bring it! Mac.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
The drama is under control in the electrical department.
The ammeter was toast. Don't care. Going with a volt meter. Shopping for a three-holer below the dash gauge sheetmetal (preferably the 2-1/16" diameter SW oldschool type), so I can have an Auto Meter unit like the oil pressure and water temp units. The only gauge that's functioning in the old cluster presently is the fuel. The truck's got a job now - helping my boy in his landscaping business, so I'm pretty satisfied now that all the lights, inside and out, work. We put a new Mexican blanket seat cover on the old girl - which is cool and now I'm looking for a proper fit rubber floor mat (heavy duty), so I can trim up the sheet metal hole for the shifter and put my custom boot on the goose neck shifter. Mac.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
F 19 250 my 61's license plate
M 43 601 my 63's license plate I have not owned these trucks for over 30 years but still remember the plate numbers. I read somewhere that somebody made plastic glove boxes. A nice plastic one would last a long time if it did not get brittle and crack. I think the old cardboard gloveboxes are a pain! Last edited by justcuz; 01-25-2010 at 04:10 PM. |
