Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Nice work, looking good! There was somewhere that I read about pedal ratios and the amount of master cylinder movement, but I can't remember where it was. Maybe it was on the Novak website. I used their slave cylinder and a pedal assembly from Kugel Komponents. That one you made will let you figure out exactly what you want though!

I'm in, I love me some Inny's, I had a 1936 C1 Pickup, a 1968 4x4 Pickup, 1963 Scout, and a 1965 Truck (flat bed).

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Thanks Scott!...good idea!!..I didnt even think about making one out of wood.....haha...
Old 57...I'm under the assumption that if the master and slave have the same piston size that it should be 1:1 movement between the two....but wilwood would neither cofirm or deny it..liability I guess... This was a sortasimple remedy...cause I want the clutch releasing at about mid pedal travel Troy...would love to see some pics of your IHs...dad had a total of 5 when I was growing up...57,59,63,67,69...this truck was the only one to survive....so to speak....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
well........this could have made for a bad day....been working a lot of OT lately so I havnt had but a few minutes here and there to work on the truck...
fiddling with my door hinges...when I got the truck the doors opened and closed like the doors on a brand new truck...when I pulled the hinges off I noticed the 2 bottom hinges were tight and harder to move than the top ones...so today I stuck one in a vise and started working the hinge back and forth,,,about that 3rd lick and the hinge fell apart! oh wow... broken hinge pin... not trusting the others now I went ahead and disassembled all the hinges... 3 of the 4 pins were broken into many pieces... these things were hard as the devil to get out...had to use the torch, pin punch and great big hammer to get them apart.... usually it would have been my luck to find this out after I got it all painted and my newly painted door was laying on the ground... any body got any 1957 IH nos oem hinge pins?.....haha guess ill be making these now

Nice catch! You must be past all those previous setbacks and on a smooth path to the finish! I’m interested in seeing how you make the new pins! Do these hinges use brass bushing and will you have to make those too? This is going to be a very sweet truck!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
thanks Scott...
ive still got a couple head scratchers to go before I make any real headway... no brass in these hinges...metal on metal...the old pins measure out to .340....im thinking of running a .375 reamer thru it and just making the pins 3/8"... but what was amazing was how good the doors opened and closed to have pins in this shape....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
did some research when looking for door pins for my buddies 39 chevy master deluxe.
used NEW big block chevy intake valves, they measure 0.3415''. to make them fit, put hinge pieces in the mill using a valve reamer that spec'd 0.3412, don't know what engine brand it was for, but the difference in diameters made for a press fit. drilled an oiling on for pin tip grease gun in all three parts of hinge. they have worked flawless for the past 10 years. almost daily driver, couple power tours, multiple car shows, 10k plus miles a year. food for thought

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
basically drilled 3/32" hole top and bottom and installed "hair clip" style pins to hold them and make easer to remove later.
as hard as they were to drill, probably shoulda used a smaller reamer and just press fit in. another option would be to weld a rose bud top on them to keep them in. good looking truck and fantastic job so far

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
thanks A.C.....ive got some drill rod I was thinking about using to make a set if I cant find anything else...
also poking around on dormans website I found some I think may work without having to make em...they show the ones for a chevy truck/suburban from the 90s to measure .342....when I quick measured the IH pins I used calipers and got .340...need to stick a mic on it and see what it really is...I think I kept the door hinges off the old burb I hauled off...so if I still got em I may have something to try... I wish there was enough metal in the hinge to ream it out and install some brass bushing...but theres just not enough meat there to do it...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Have you talked to the guy at Coonrod’s IH parts? Here’s his FB page: https://m.facebook.com/pages/Coonrod...59964014102231
It’s just west of Denver up in the foothills and I’ve stopped by and looked around a couple of times. He has a ton of stuff up there! Maybe he has some parts for you?

Might be worth a call. He really does have an impressive amount of parts. Makes you almost want to get an old IH truck or Scout!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
well..we have a winner..
i went and looked at the burb doors I saved ...I didn't keep the front door hinges but the rears were still on the doors...so I knocked the top pin out and its the same dia as the IH pin....its a little longer but that's no issue....the bottom burb pin is about 1/2in shorter so I should be in business....got some new ones on the way..i may have to knurl the new top pins a little bit futher down the shank..there is a spring that goes under the head of the top pin...no issue there either though

Good deal on finding a simple and cost effective solution. Mr $91 a pin won’t like that one.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
I’ve seen various size door pin sets in the help section at Autozone. I remember I had ordered some from somewhere like LMC and then thinking maybe I could have just got them at the parts store cheaper.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Yep Doug...when I 1st took them apart I was expecting the pins to be some weird size, one off, nobody ever seen one like it,pin....so I was surprised to find that it must be a common size for pins...
Hard to believe how many $$$ it adds to something with the word nos attached to it.... Yeah Greenlee...I looked thru that section at the parts store...they didnt have what i needed though....

Hey Greg - just in case you’re not really over IHs yet check this out:
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...6370194098709/ This one is just down the road from me in Colorado Springs. PS - I’m enjoying a little bit of Alabama down at Gulf Shores this week. Great weather, just about all the fried fish a guy can eat without exploding and I am out of the Colorado winter for a few days! Scott
