Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

How about this one from an early episode of Starsky & Hutch. There were several other pics of it, but the Starsky Torino never got in a chase with it. Owner probably wouldn't risk wrecking it. I remember it, though.

The episode is titled "JoJo"

AND, how many of us had one of these.......in some other color perhaps? Aw Man, the Alive '55 was one of my favorites back in the day!...before kids stayed inside all day playing video games and trying to figure out which restroom they wanted to use.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

I like this 68 with the dog dish caps.

I'm not so sure about the Sassy Grass Green color on it. Although I did own a 71 Duster 340 that had exactly the same paint. That's how I know it's called Sassy Grass. That is the actual name from the factory. My buddy's would make jokes about it. My ex hated that car. She wouldn't ride in it. That's why I kept it.

This isn't my car. It's a 70 but it's almost identical. Same wheels and the Shark tooth grille. Don't ask me why they called it that. And I didn't have the 340 sticker thing on the hood. I hate to think what that thing is worth today. I can't find any pics of my car. What else is new.

Now I've just got to find a 440 for my wagon.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Yeah buddy. Those little 340 Dusters were something. I rode in a few Dusters, Road Runners and Challengers. They'd scoot pretty good.
One of my buddies Dad owned the Dodge/Plymouth dealership and they had a repo'd black 340 Duster and of course my bud was allowed to take it around so he let 5 of us go too. 6 of us were crammed in there and he let it rip on a long straight. We were moving when a long right hander came up and we were going way too fast to make that curve. He went in far to the right shoulder and came out far on the shoulder of the left lane. We were lucky to have made it. If we had rolled I was a gonner as I was the smallest of us 3 in the back seat, not to mention we could have hit someone in their lane.
I had a couple of similar instances, with someone else driving. Slow learner I guess..

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

Yup. That 340 could defiantly get out of it's own way and smoked the tires. I liked the 340 and the 440 that I had in my 68 Charger.

I know you are a die hard Chevy guy Boog. But I like a little of everything. Cars are like women. Even the ugly ones with bad reputations can be a lot of fun.

I'm really looking forward to digging into this wagon.

How about ugly with a good reputation?
I think the fastest I have ridden in a car (back seat) was in a purple 340 Duster with white interior. Before I-95 was even built they had dualized Rt216 from this country road (Gorman Rd) a ways west of the proposed location of I-95, built the bridge over, and on down the road a good ways before necking down to 2-lane. It was a couple miles of new wide open hiway in the middle of nowhere. Almost the county line, too. I swear this one night riding in that Duster I read 140 mph on the speedometer.

Yeah, those Flashing green ones are pretty cool, but this is the one for me. '65 Fury 383

I have been wanting a wagon for a long time. Found this 1953 Pontiac less than 20 miles from home. It has a1955 Pontiac 287 v8 installed with a 3 speed manual transmission. Hope to get a few things finished up soon and enjoy driving it.

I like your surf racks, I'm planning on putting some and an old surfboard on my wagon. Not that I ever really surfed. But my friends were surfers and I looked the part. Good enough to meet chicks,

I've been looking for an old kayak to hang on my deck. I live next to the river so I think it would look cool. But they are kind of pricy. I might just hang one of my old surfboards up. I have a bunch of those.

This was an excellent find. Early Pontiac V8 swap and all

I always wanted a Nomad or Safari. What a crime to let that one rot into the ground. maybe it could still be a donor to convert a solid sedan or wagon into a safari.

Not counting a few Suburbans, which are station wagons, I've had a few other station wagons. I have always had a thing for them since I was a kid. I've had a '55 210 4dr, a '65 Biscayne, and a '75 Malibu Classic. I've had a '71, a '91, and now have a '95 Suburban

He is a character. He works constantly. His kids don't. They just live off of Daddy.
He used to have demolition derbies on his property. Last one was about 15 years ago. He had a Gran Torino also just sitting there.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

That 65 Biscayne is sweet.

It reminds me of my neighbor's 65 Impala SS. He was an older guy and I was just the kid across the street. But that car was perfect and he always said that he would sell it to me. I think it had 32,000 miles on it and had always been garaged. So you know I was chomping at the bit to get it. But I had to wait.

As it turns out. Unknown to me. He put in some shady car lot on consignment. I didn't get the car... And he never got paid. I don't know all the details but I do know that the guy took his money and skipped town and he wasn't happy.

He should have sold it to me.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

That car was truly sweet. Garage kept original owner low mile car. It looked restored. This was around '95. The old guy rubbed the side of the garage opening backing out and he decided it was time to stop driving. It was basic as can be, 6cyl/3spd manual steering & brakes. Back then I said if it had been a big block Caprice I never would have bought it for my kid's first car. Back then every car built in the '60s wasn't necessarily all that valuable. He was good to it and was a hit with the girls. My thoughts were build a 409 COPO Wagon when he was done with it. He ran it through HS and college, 7 years all together. It met it's demise when he was giving a cousin his first driving lesson. That was poor judgement. Who needs to learn to drive in a big old car with manual steering and 3 0n the tree? The cousin turned it into their grandmom's driveway and took it way too wide (manual steering) and was heading for a big tree. All confused and inexperienced, he got all crossed up on the depress clutch pedal thing and rammed the tree. My X thought I'd kill him if I saw it and never let me see it (Grandmom was her ex-mother in law). I don't know what difference seeing it would make. The car was done and he needed something else. I called a buddy who is a '65 fullsize fanatic, and owns a junkyard, to come pick it up.

I wish I had pictures of what he did with it. He already had a nice Caprice wagon for his wife. He had our body shop friend convert it to a 2dr using sport coupe doors and made a sedan delivery out of it. It got a blown big block, tubbed out, triple tail lights, and painted that sunset orange color GM had in the early '00s.

I bought a 67 Toyota Corona for $400. Same story. An elderly woman had hit the garage pulling it in. She was the original owner. It was in nice shape except for a dented fender. and that wasn't even that bad. But her son had pulled the plug on her driving. I guess that wasn't the first incident.

I gave it to my nephew. He needed a car. He was so happy. You would have thought I gave him a Ferrari. He drove it all through college and delivered pizzas in it to make ends meet.

I gave it to him outright and never asked him for any money. I refused to take any. He came over one time and when he left I noticed that there was $400 in cash sitting on my table. I may have refused the money but he refused not to pay. He was a good kid. Still is.
