Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The outside plate is all I sell. The inside plate my competitors include with their kits in not necessary in my opinion. My Suburban has over 120,000 miles with no issues and neither have the hundreds of the adapter plates I have sold. Just let me know.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Is your '67 a C series or a K series truck?

This steering box adapter plate is not needed on a C series truck. All that is needed is four 1/4" spacers. I can provide those spacers if you like. The cost will depend on whether you want them straight from the laser or if you want me to clean them up.

If your '67 is a K series, then yes you do need this adapter plate.

The tube and flange should not be needed either, if you have an original steering column.

Here are a couple pics of a '67 C series frame with the 1/4" spacers stitch welded in place.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

is the 73-87 steering gear the only one that will work with this bracket? i'm planning on using the steering components from a 93 C1500, so i'm wondering if i can use the steering gear from the same truck, or do i have to source one from a earlier truck?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The steering boxes from the '68-'86 C10,20 and 30 as well as the '87-'91 R1500,2500 and 3500 will work. The '88 and up C1500 steering and front suspension is completely different and will in no way work on a '60-'86 C10. I recommend the '73-'87 components as they are very easy to find in good used condition.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

okay, sorry. i had my truck chassis mixed up. forgot about the Suburban chassis staying on the old chassis till 91. i read about doing the 6 lug rotors from a R2500 and was thinking they had already gone to the GMT400 chassis.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

found this on this site... i knew i had read something about using GMT400 parts.

Quote:
Option 2: (done by captainfab)
Spindles from any '88-'98 1/2 ton or light 3/4 ton 2wd pickup or suburban. Rotors from a 7200# GVW 3/4ton from '88-'98 (for some reason there is one part # for '88 & '89 and another for '90-'94. There are only minor differences between the two) I bought the one for the '90-'94 which is Raybestos #56915RGS. The ball joints you need to use are the ones for the '88-'98 spindles. The uppers will fit '63-'87 1/2 ton upper a-arms. The lowers will fit '69-'87 3/4 ton lower a-arms. The '69-'72 are prefered because of the shorter bump stop bracket. The newer ones could be easily modified. For steering you will need to use the '88-'98 outter tierod ends and the adjuster sleeves with ES2020L (ES2020RL?) inner tierod ends to mate up with the drag link. The calipers to use are the '88-'98 ones. Other than some minor things and replacement parts like bearings and seals, etc, I think that's about it.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

That conversion has shown to have alignment issues and is no longer recommended. Although the original posters of that conversion claim to not have had those issues. This is talked about later on in that thread

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

gotcha. i wanting to do the ps and power disc brake swap all at the same time. i've read so many different ways of doing the conversion, they are all starting to run together lol. i'm debating on swapping to 73-87 lug 5 and getting your bracket to mount the Impala calipers, or getting the 6 lug rotors from ECE for 73-87 and your 6 lug rear brackets.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Captain,
I have a 72 C10, which doesn't require the bracket, but I can't find the bolt sizing/specs used for the power steering gear box. I've also explored all the local junkyards but with no luck. Any info would help and possible places to get them, thanks!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The threads in a power steering box are 7/16"-14. On a stock application you can get away with a 1-1/2" or 1-1/4" length in a Grade 8. You will also need either a split lock washer or a L9 SAE flat washer. You should be able to get these at a local fastener supply or a good hardware store.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

CaptainFab,

I have seen your brackets in place (at Chris's in Apache Junction AZ) and they look great. I am following protocol in posting first, then sending a PM to get the power steering bracket, and axle perches coming my way. I am building a 63 GMC. I have a complete (66 wrecked) as a donor to pull the trailing arms off of as well as 2 73 to 87 parts trucks. One of them is a 1/2 ton which will be donating the front crossmember assembly and the rear axle.
