Stayed up late again last night. We got both doors hung and aligned OK for now. Once the truck is driven and settles in and the seals compress a bit, we might readjust them some. Put in the vent windows and the main window weatherstripping in both doors. Hung the front fenders and mounted the headlights in the core support. I don't like how the fenders hang right now. The gap between the door and fender is to wide at the top and tight at the bottom. It looks like the core support needs to come up or the back of the cab to come up so the fenders line up properly. Both doors open fine and do not hit the fender at this time. we are going to move on to other things then come back to the fender/door alignment before leaving on Thursday.

The seals/weather stripping we are using came from GMC Paul's and are Precision Replacement Parts brand. This is the first time I have used that brand and they are very good quality parts. So far they are fit really well and look good. I only have the inner and outer lower window felts left to install in the doors.




Got the door latches cleaned up and installed in the doors, still need to hook up the rods to the handles and such but that should not take long this evening.


I forgot to get a picture of the vent windows installed in the doors, but they cleaned up nice and looks good with fresh paint on the metal parts.

Korbin is getting a few parts today from the wrecking yard today, plugs, small bolts, and other parts that where damaged or now missing since the tear down. He works today from 2-8:0, so once I get home from work, I will attempt to finish up the wiring and get water in the engine so we can MAYBE pull it out of the garage...

Here is a little side note that I would like to share. I had never used this product before, but reading on the interweb about it, I had to try it out. Evapo-Rust, rust remover, have any of you guys tried this stuff before:

I have used it on a number of different parts for this truck. I have been amazed at what it does. Things with surface rust and no pitting come out looking like freshly stamped steel parts. On items with heavier rust, they look good and if left in long enough they start to turn black which is just carbon coming out of the steel. Nuts and Bolts look good after soaking in it.

Some people complain it is too slow, but to me parts can soak while I do other things so time has not been an issue. The stuff does loose its effectiveness over time and depending on how many rusty items you soak in it. Here are a few bolts I put in last night at about 12:30am and took them out at about 7am this morning. The solution had already been used to do some other bolts and tabs so it was not full strength...but the results are good:

I did not brush these at all, I only dropped them in the solution and swirled it around a bit before letting it soak till this morning. A brass or stainless brush would help them look even better.

I the post above, I soaked the door latch in them for about 12 hours and then just lightly brushed them with a small SS brush and sprayed them with WD40. They look nearly brand new to me...

I have used the Evapo-Rust before and yeah I love the product!! I was actually trying to find something to help "dissolve" the rust and I was going to use this WD-40 Rust Remover product that had just come out, and when I went to Autozone the guy told me to buy the Evapo-Rust and I did, and I'm glad I did. It came out exactly how you described you have to be patient with it but it works!

Cool! Good tip on the rust remover. I have also been wondering about the precision seals and felts. I will need to replace mine when truck gets out of the body shop. Post up if you run into any issues with any of them.

The WD-40 Rust Remover soak also works very very well. Very much worth the money to buy it. Toss it in, let it soak, take em out and paint. I let some of my stuff soak for 8 days while I was in El Salvador on a mission trip with Habitat for Humanity. They came out looking stellar. Its a must!

Very nice work guys!!! Truck looks amazing! Yes the evapo rust is an incredible product, I use it all the time at the shop to clean up rusty bolts and brackets, the parts come out looking like new every time!

Thanks Guys! We are exicted about getting it finished up...

We were up till 1:30am today working on it. All the front lights and horn are hooked up and working. Most of the interior is installed on looks good. We should be finished and ready for the trip on Thursday. I did not take any pictures last couple of days, but I will get some today when I get home before starting on it again....

We made it to the show mins the interior, tailgate, rear bumper and lights, and the steps. We are relaxing and enjoying the show.

I will see if I can put some time frame on these pictures, a bunch of stuff happened last week to get it to the show running and driving.

here is where we were at on the 23rd:


We got a ton of stuff done and got the truck on the ground with the cut 3/4 ton springs. It is to low to drive with the current combination of wheels and tires with these springs, but it looks cool, this was the morning of the 25th:



That night after searching all over Longview for an uncut set of 3/4 ton springs, our neighbor, Brad Arnold came the rescue with a set of front bags to get us to the right ride height to get it to the show...He also helped with the problems on the rack and pinion steering. We could not get the air to bleed out properly, so we by-passed the pump for the weekend. He was over till 12:30 that night, but we got the front together to get it rolling for the show. This was about 11am on the 26th, we should have left the day before but it was not ready to go..

The morning of the 26th was hectic. I fired it up and made sure brakes and stuff worked while it was up on stands.


Once it passed my tests, Korbin took it for a spin around the block before we loaded it on the trailer for the trip to the painter's place to get the bed, rear fenders, and hood. That was about 12:30. We got to the painter's at 1 pm and by 2:00pm we had it put together and loaded back up and headed to Austin.




Still had to much air in the front for the stance we wanted, but we decided not to make any adjustments till we got to the show grounds. We made it down to Austin without any issues and drove straight to the Round Rock Express game and relaxed and had a good time at the game that evening.
