Here's another good picture of the inner fender bracket if you're still looking (not mine):

Re: 52 Project

Thanks Bluejeep, dad ordered one from LMC truck and it seems like the right one. Looks just like the one in the above picture.

Do you know if the hood hinge bolts just a spacer or belleville washer on them? Seems like a lot of space between the head of the bolt and the hinge. I am talking about the hinge to hood interface. I should have taken some pictures of what I am talking about but didn't think about it.

Yeah we got this bolt kit from LMC because I couldn't find the originals. I had the two that went with the springs but didn't have the other ones. This truck was taken apart 20 years ago and lots of stuff has been miss placed or forgotten how it goes back together. It just seems like there is a lot of room between the head of the bolt and the hinge. I took a thick washer and put under one of the bolts and it took up some of the room. Will take some pictures next weekend when I go down there to better clearify what I am talking about.

I haven't gotten that far yet, dad bought a Lokar e-brake kit but he wasn't entirely sure he wants to use it now. I just scrapped a 87 Nova and pulled the floor mounted e-brake handle out of it just in case. Will probably be a while before I get that figured out.

Bernie,
Is the bolt threads too long and bottoming out in the captured nut in the hood?

No the bolts go in all the way no problem it is the shoulders that appear to be to long. I will try to get a picture when I head down there in the morning.

Re: 52 Project

Here are a couple of pictures of the hinge bolts that I am questioning. In the first picture you can see I found a thick washer to take up some of the space. I am not sure if I am missing something or if that is just the way it is?

Re: 52 Project

Those are shoulder bolts and it looks like the shoulder is too large to fit inside the hinge. Where did you get the bolts?

We got them from LMC Truck, they are bottomed out against the hood and swivel on the hinge ok the only problem is the shoulders are to long...maybe. They might be ok or I am missing something else.

Re: 52 Project

Looks like you need a bolt with a shoulder about 1/4/1/8" shorter.
I would suggest you go to a stainless bolt. Not much more $ but will look better and longer. I bought a complete set of stainless for the entire truck. However when I need a few items I go to the Bolt Depot. Check them out: http://www.boltdepot.com/dimension.a...67&cs=244&cm=6

Thanks, We have a bolt set but I didn't even look in there to see if those bolts were in there. I thought it was just for the fenders etc. I think I might just make a set of shoulder bolts a little shorter. I think I can find some stainless stock at work and machine a set out.

Re: 52 Project

Bernie,

Do you think I need the firewall to radiator support braces ( I'm using a different firewall much like you)

Also do you think I would need the inner fender support brace ( the one that the ebarke attached to, etc.) or can I just bolt it like the other side.. Right onto the toe board ( different toe bards than stock style too.)

Thanks,

Nick

Nick, you will need that brace for the drivers side inner fender since there is a gap between the inner fender and the firewall...we were missing it and had to order one. On the radiator braces.....I am still messing around trying to see if we even need them I was actually thinking about making a cool looking one with heim joints and aluminum rods and brackets. The original ones will be too short with the recessed firewall.

Thanks we are getting all the mock up done trying to make sure everything is done before we paint it. Since I only get to work on it for a few hours a week it takes a while. But I keep plugging along.

Re: 52 Project

If the bolt is bottomed out, can you use a washer (under the hex head) to close the gap where the shoulder of the bolt is showing?

I probably could, I have been helping dad get the Corvair running so he can at least play with that for a while since the truck is going to take some more time. It has been so hot in the shop that I can only stay out there for an hour or so. I told him today that we might take a few weeks off until it gets a little cooler. We have had 14 straight days over or at 100 and it is going to be at least that hot the rest of this week. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 52 Project

I have been busy doing everything but the truck for the past couple of months. Now that the weather has gotten a little cooler maybe I can get back on the truck. I mounted the AC unit and was trying to figure out the french head light kit last weekend. Here are a couple of pictures. I think this weekend I am going to try to weld in the buckets and see how they fit....has anyone done one of these before? I had Cajun post a few pictures but if anyone has anymore please post them for me...thanks.

Yes it is a Hagan kit. I have never done one of these so I am in a learning process. But this is what dad wanted so I am getting it done for him.

I have been messing with a little but most of my time was planning the 50th wedding anniversary for my mom and dad. It came out very nice but was pretty hectic. Glad its over with now so I can get back to the projects.
