Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Youngrodder, thank you very much. I do love doing it. Yes it is nice to finally have a nice larger clean well lit garage. Weather is going to be great here this week. Actually had the panel out yesterday. Going to drive it to work on Wednesday because it is going to be 70 degrees. Hope the weather is finally going to break and stay nice.

LOW A D, thank you.

99 to Life, haha, yes you are right there. Still have some house stuff to do. But had to get back on the truck again. You will be busy with the house for sure. It will be good for you to have a break.

Coach529, thank you.

Oldman3, thank you about the garage and my wall art. Yes get ready because I am going to get rolling again.

Lv2tri2, thank you. It is nice it is still up top, but smooth by recessing it back in the firewall a bit. If you need any more pictures let me know.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Started rolling tonight on the drivers door. It needed both the inner and the outer lower panels. So I cut off the front first and then fit the inner panel and scribed my cut line. Cut it off and glued the new one on. Then ground it all up. Hopefully tomorrow night I can start on the outside skin. It almost looks like I have done this before!

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Shannon, where did you get your inner and outters? Do they fit nice? I made mine from scratch and it wasn't tooo bad, but the sides have a lot more angles and curves than one might think. Nice work as always.

Mongocanfly, thank you. Glad to give you some ideas.

Advanced Design, thank you, yes it is great to be back at it again. It was fun to make my wall art , plus it jazzes up the wall too.

Oldman3, thank you Jim

Reaper71, thank you Mark

99 to Life, thank you, as for the inners and outers. They are counterpart pieces and I believe I got them from Classic Industries. And as for fit, they fit like every after market part. They always need a little tweaking.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Took a half day because we were not busy at work today. Did a few hours of house projects. Then out to the garage I went. I fit the drivers outer door panel. Then welded it up, ground the welds , and the ran the shrinking disc over it. It only will need a little bit of filler. That is probably one the best metal work tools I bought. Then onto the passengers door. I cut off the bottom of the door and have the bottom inner welded in. Should have the outer on Friday afternoon. I always have to laugh when I work on something someone else did. The standard overlay right over the rusty hole riden panel. Plus can't let out the brazing too.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

stellar work, those side pieces are the hardest part to deal with if you don't buy the panels.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

99 to Life, thank you, yes the inners are more complex. The one end just has the formed radius and the other end has the double radius. I have found that it is cheaper to just buy the panels than to actually make your own. I usually buy the outside sheet metal and make the inner stuff like floors and firewall. But I do make the center back of the cab piece and belt line pieces because the back of the cab full panel are just too expensive to buy and ship.

Oldman3, thank you.

Should have the passenger door done tomorrow. I have to call rocky hinge tomorrow and see if they will email the directions. They got lost in the move and have no idea where they might be. Figured it would be easier than look for them. Then I can get the doors rehung. Ken is bringing me the AC compressor tomorrow night then I can finish up the inner wheel well. Feels great to be back to fabricating on this thing again.

I bet you feel real good! side note that turbo heater you have is identical to mine, the one that started leaking within 5 uses. I still haven't even called them about it.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Still working the the truck. Been getting a bunch done. The inside and outside sheet metal is done on both doors. I now have the ac compressor so I made the inner wheel well fit to it not. I finished the front so that it matched the other side. They need just a few odds and ends yet. Then I started to get ready to do the suicide doors. I made patches for the old door latch areas.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

I cut ot the latch area and welded my patches and the made patches for the lower hinge area. Then welded them in to. Going to make the uppers when I have the power windows and the 1 piece glass done. The uppers will be made of 1/8 inch with a cage nut made in the back so it can be adjusted from the outside and no wrench needed for the nut on the back side. Then was looking and the 3 rear cab support were flapping in the wind. So I made a London piece so I can cut 3 out of it and repair all 3 .

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Then I got side tracked again. The transmission tunnel was never finished so I decided to finish it. Made the rear radiused part. Then fit it and welded it on. Next is to make the rear flange. Then make the front flange to fit the firewall. It will be bolted in so the flange will get a seal.

Your metal work looks fantastic Shannon. It will be a shame when it is covered with paint.

Marc, yes tell me about it! Most you will not see, the floor is so strong and no oil canning with the paneled sections.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

99 to Life, Thank you. Started with a retanglular piece of sheet metal, ran it through my slip roller to get the curve. Then cut 2" wide slits 2" from the bottom. Bent it by hand to get a 4" radius with the slits over lapping. Then clamped the 2 end ones together and marked the over lapping ones with a sharpie. Flattened it out a little to cut the over lapping areas. Then tacked it together at the top. Then put it in my air planishing hammer to get rid of the flat spots. I then welded up the fingers, ground them off on both sides and air planished it again. I grind on both side because I don't want to ruin my dies. I even do it when I hammer and dolly everything too. I should have taken pictures when I did it. Hopefully that helps.

Advanced Design, Thank you.

Reaper71, Thank you Mark

Oldman3, Thank you Jim

84blaze, Thank you, I started this a while ago and stopped to do another build for the same guy, so now I am back at it again. I follow you on Instagram, I am @shannonpanel

ChuckDriver, Thank you
