Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Thanks for sharing such a great experience. I don't know about you, but I'm tired from all this hiway time. Sure feels good to be back home!*
* Not really. Are you sure you don't want to head East on the southern route now that it's cooling off a bit?

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
THANK YOU!!!! This was one of the best threads I have ever read on the board! What a generous thing to share it with all of us!
A true trip of a lifetime shared with your kid (and now all of us)....does it get any better than that?

I'll try and respond where I can And post other pictures that didn't make it in the thread So many times when I had an idea where I was going with the daily posts Something else would come up, and it would go in a different direction The second day of the trip I was fortunate enough to meet Andy At Wheels Through Time He just walked up to Brad and I , and started telling a story about that Traub motorcycle (it was like you were there when it hapened) We walked all through the museum, just telling each other stories about each other's lives, motorcycles, trucks, girlfriends, where we lived, whatever! When we said goodbye, I said to Dale, "man, Andy, he is a great story teller" He agreed "yes he is" This is their Schwinn bike exhibit |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
That area where you began your odyssey has some of the friendliest got time to talk and listen people I've known. Although that is Dan's job. But just more personable than most. The guy who took you right in with your driveline issues was another example. He did more than minimal required. I'm sure you met great friendly people all along the way. Just saying always a pleasure to be in the Smokey Mt region.
I'm glad you guys (and shorty) made it back safe and sound w/o any real incident. You got yourself a great truck that has already given back tons of return. Wanna sell it?

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
I just found a bargain on an all original unmolested '72 short bed Cheyenne Super in your neighborhood. Man, what a waste of time going all the way back east to drive one back
You know I like to kid...right?

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
If you were serious I would probably go buy it
But the money Doesn't even matter I probably have double the money in this truck Than any one I have ever bought before But none of the trucks will matter when I'm gone Brads memory of the trip Is what will matter It's funny I started the thread about a truck But it turned out to be much more than just a truck |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Yes, it really is about way more than just a truck. You are very fortunate to have shared this experience with your son. It will live in your memory for ever as well.
Thank you for inspiring us all to take a step back and really think about what matters in life.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
After I finished going through the mountain of paperwork on my desk
From the time away I was able to trace our route We had used a road atlas for each state I tried to circle where we stayed, but I think there were more nights Than circles, a bit hard to remember It definitely wasnt a straight shot I think We ended up doing around 4700 miles Now that I look at it, that seat in WA. cost me a lot of money in gas |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
I took a couple days off reading about your adventure, wish I wouldn't have done that, I would have met you someplace. The blue seat you bought came out of a truck I parted out for my build, I traded it to Frank and I bought the truck from member John H.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

The best days of my life have been the ones I didn't hesitate and just went for it. When my ex-wife graduated nursing school, she planned a flying trip with our daughter to visit a friend in Santa Fe, NM. I was extremely busy with my business in the height of busy time and would be staying home with our son. My two sisters lived in Taos and I used to live in Pagosa Springs as well as the Flagstaff area. It got to about two weeks before she left and I just couldn't stand the thought of not going. So, I called my dad to see if he could break away, got the '71 camper truck ready, and headed west on a grandfather/father/son tres hombres trip. My dad stayed in Taos with my sisters and took my ex-wife's flight back while we did a loop into CO, through 4-corners down to AZ, and back east. Very summarized. We did the parks along the way and it was the vacation of a lifetime. I also still had a couple trucks stashed with my friend in Flag area, rented a U-Haul trailer, and I drove them back while my X drove the camper. About two years later my oldest sister passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm. Now my dad is gone and I am so glad I made that trip, words will never do. It was the last time we saw her Sorry for steering into my own experience, but with your trip over and this thread such being a great thing we don't want to end, I feel the two trips relate to the same thing. You did it and now you two have the same type of deeply seeded memory I know my kids have and will carry with them throughout their lives. I feel their children will benefit from it as well. You did a wonderful thing and I am very happy for you.
