I looked back through my posts but I didn't see where I mentioned that I had a leak in the radiator. Anyway I pulled it out a while back and took it to the radiator repair shop. I had another radiator I stuck in the truck so I could still drive it. The shop called Wednesday and said the radiator was done so I went yesterday and picked it up. Swapped it back out between the rain showers yesterday afternoon. I needed to put the first one back in because it has a heater outlet on it which I need. Cool and windy today but I will go out and work on the bed wood this afternoon.

Awesome work on the dually Leon! How close is you radiator shop? I have one I would like to get checked after it was sent to nuclear coolant temps last year. Your bed wood looks great! What paint did you use on the exterior again? It looks great.

Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the kudos on the truck!

Radiator shop is Kassel Brothers in Chelsea, IA. They have fixed 2 '36 Ford radiators for me and this one. So far, so good! This one was $150.00

For the paint top coat I used good old Van Sickel Implement Enamel, Satin Black, purchased at Theisen's Farm Supply Store.
You can get hardener for it but I didn't use it this time.

Bed wood is all bolted down, so I set the cut wheel tubs in place to see what I am going to need as far as width. 3 1/2" is what I come up with. Man it takes a long time to get all of those bolts tightened up.....

Now that I have everything set up as far as weight on the back I need to figure out what I want to do to bring the back down. I will see what I can gain with longer shackles but I don't think I can end up with what I need that way alone. I have a couple of other options but they will be more work......

A couple of pictures of the truck taken this evening. I will be working on the stance in the next couple of days to see what I can come up with. I want to hook the trailer up to it and see how much that brings it down.

I drove down to Montezuma today to get some c10 parts. I met Leon and saw the dually in person. It looks and sounds awesome. Great guy and very talented. If you’re into c10s, it’s like Disneyland. I’m just learning c10s, so I picked his brain on a lot of questions I had. I learned more in the hour that I was there than I would have imagined.

It was great meeting you and your dad Yesterday. We had a good visit and I got to see his '72 Chevy truck in person. Nice truck he picked up, for sure.

I hooked the trailer up this morning and the tongue weight only dropped it a 1/2". I may put a vehicle on it tomorrow and see what it looks like. I need to get a 2 5/16 ball. I used to have a bunch of them but I'm not sure where they all went......

I have been looking for a class IV hitch local to me but so far no luck.

Member JDL came up to visit from southern Iowa and brought me a trailer hitch. It's off of an S-10 so it is too wide but I have already started to narrow it up. I think I am going to make some new end plates for it so I can modify them a little and use more bolts. There are a few extra holes that I can eliminate at the same time. Hopefully I can get it finished up tomorrow.

Hitch end plates are welded on and I am ready to touch up the paint. I decided to go ahead and use the original ones. (first picture)

Got the hitch up into place. Two of the bolt holes lined up with the step bumper bracket mounting bolts and I will have to drill a couple of holes in each side of the frame to match the other holes in the hitch end plates. Lookin' pretty good. I need to get a wiring receptacle and get it wired in.

Hitch is all finished up and bolted in. Drilling the extra holes I needed wasn't too bad. Overall it worked out good. I will have to pick up a trailer wiring kit somewhere. Not sure if I can get one locally or if I will have to order it.....

Those side plates are about the nicest ones I've seen for an older rear hitch install. Usually these hitches are horribly hacked on there and C channel or other mess. Nice work Leon.

I decided to try using the three point seat belts out of the old '91 Chevy truck I have, in the Dually project. They are in pretty good shape, just dirty. I had a spray can of Turtle Wax Interior Cleaner that I got as a door prize at a car show a couple of years ago, so I decided that would be a good test for it. It comes out as a foam so it stays in place really well. The can also has an attached brush on the top that worked good.

First picture is of the product can. Second picture is of the seat belts with a coating of the foam. Third picture shows the difference in the cleaned vs the uncleaned section of the belt. The cleaner worked really good for me. Fourth picture is the finished belts.

I won't get them installed for a few days because board member JDL is coming up to pick up a '67 cab I sold him, so I have to get it out and ready to load on his trailer.

I have been trying to get the cruise control working on the Dually but I am having some problems with that. I finally took the lever/switch assembly apart and tested the wire connections. I have power into the switch but nothing coming out of it, so I guess the switch is bad. I will have to make a trip over to the salvage yard to see if I can find another four wire screw mounted cruise lever.

Passengers side seat belt is installed. It fit great. I need to make some larger plates to mount under the floor but that shouldn't be too bad.

Nice work on the seat belts. I may go source some of these for my next build. The ones I bought for my orange truck were too short, or I'm too round. I'd not rather spend that much on some now anyhow.

First load of stuff I have hauled in the new Dually. I had to dismantle three sets of wooden shelves at the Historical Society Library and take them home. Even that didn't bring it down much in the back.
