Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Hey ChevyRedneck, I just read through your build and it got me fired up some more. Nice work and you proved to me (again) that you don't need a nice shop to have this hobby. I don't have much, as far as a shop, so it isn't going to slow me down.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Pulled the bezel and dash out, along with all the under-dash wiring that's been there since 1968. With how many ever P.O.'s adds (and a few "subtracts").

In a couple of days (after I get un-pretzeled from spending the day under the dash), ill be installing my new M&H under-dash harness. Other than the Vintage Air,
cigarette lighter, and glove compartment light, it's the only wiring in the whole truck that isn't brand new. So, I bit the bullet and shelled out the four bone$.

Now I need a new bezel. I lost a great (and I guess rare) GM Throttle block- off that I'd worked on for a week restoring one previous winter. Tip: Forget Loctite on that one...
Even the "Blue". I tried for an hour before I got out the Dremel tool.

Okay, off to find a new bezel. The spares I have in the garage have some small cracks at the screw-holes. Anyone know if they make a bezel with wiper and light holes
on the left and no hole on the upper right?

If not, what do you all use to block the hole? I want to leave the lights and wipers on the stock (67-68) side of the bezel.

To magwakeenercew2jh,
I actually have a dummy knob on mine that I am going to use to activate either a line lock or nitrous activation switch. Just an idea.

Good idea. Think I'll copy you. I'm always looking for a "spot" to put *something* that looks kind of stock. A dummy for now......Thanks!

Cool Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I pulled mine out of the garage so a guy could take pictures of it. He is building our mantel in the living room for us and want to show his dad my truck.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

went to the pick-a-part yard... they only had one 71 LWB that was beat up and stripped... I did go by the S10s and pull some 175 amp main fuse blocks to eliminate the old fusbale link... I stole this idea from Whitels1 who did an LS swap on his square body K5 blazer ...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My son installed the Holley carb (1850) on the 454 in my '67 swb stepper and hooked up the linkage and fuel line. While I filled the radiator with anti-freeze.

We pushed the truck out of the garage and started the engine for the first time after putting it in the truck using a temporary gas tank.

The mini starter I got from DB electric worked great without any shimming.

The truck fired up after the fuel pump built up pressure.

We ran the truck for a while until the thermostat opened and topped off the radiator.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I finally got both of my brake lights working with the lights on, replaced the one rocker arm that kept popping off the push rod, and over the weekend ended up getting the power steering put in and it drives like a charm now, finished painting it, and put side mirrors on that I picked up from o'reillys.

Edit: ill have to upload the pictures tomorrow, they're too big to upload from my phone.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Just to prove to myself that I'll never be *done*, I decided to put in the new
M & H under dash wiring harness. So, in the course of doing that (and still trying to figure out why ALL of my gas gages don'e seem to want to play fair with the new sending unit), I broke the bezel.

So, I bought a new one from a Seller on the Forum and filled it up again. Gotta go out and crawl around under the dash tomorrow, I guess. But I feel lazy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Nate,
I think the tach I have is a stock 6cyl. It always reads off with the 8cyl I run. Way too high. When traveling 55, it reads like 4500 rpm or something like that. I need to get rid of it. Interested?
