Re: What did you do to your truck today?
His shop class built the trophies at the begining of the year out of pistons from a 350 chevy..it looks pretty cool with an engraved plate on it....Best in show was a mid 70's Monte Carlo with hydraulics.....not our style but my son was happy!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
It was actually a few days ago...I had to replace starter solinoid on my 62. I did get it fired up and ran it for about 10 min. Also started putting in the carpet so I can get interior back together. Wont be doing anything with it this weekend but hoping to get it on the road by mid June.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
worked on my instrument--gauge panel. added a old tach (wanted a 6k one) but this one was cheap (hope it works). didn't have anything for the other side. so i added a volt gauge for now.(yes i know it has an amp Ga.) was looking for a vacuum ga. also need to fix the speedo needle and paint the bezel.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
It has taken a while but I had to tear half the front of the engine apart to fix a cooling problem....An HD radiator from a Dodge RV and a new H2O pump. Decided to repaint the engine bay and block. New brake booster and master cylinder from a 68' Vette. Also cleaned up the grill and fresh paint and a temp repair to the front bumper. I still need to get over to my father in laws t have several things welded up....Without a garage I have to work around mother nature here....Progress is being made....slowly.

Blocked out my tailgate, painted it, and got it reinstalled. Glad that's done I had no enthusiasm for it at all, I just wanted it fixed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed the new ChevyDuty polished stainless door sills that just arrived. For an off the shelf aftermarket part the quality of the polished finish is amazing.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
got entirely frustrated with it, to the point he's very close to selling PJ.
We got news in Thursday that one of our heads were cracked. We spent Friday and today looking for a replacement; to no avail, because 400sbc's are apparently a pain in the [bleep] to find.. We don't have the money to buy new ones, so.. we're kind of screwed right now, with this truck.

Any 350 heads, any combustion chamber size and shape or would someone need to look for something specific? What would the compression issues be if any?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
They could use any year, even the 64 cc heads as long as they are matched valve size and compression, the 400 motors were all 8.5 compression at the piston with 25 cc dished pistons so they have a lot to pick from. The 400 heads had a chamber volume of 75 or 76, this was done for the truck motors for better low end torque.

When I bought my Panel, I was told it was a "400" but after running the numbers, it was a 305. I was much happier as though not a powerhouse, they have less issues than 400's. Good luck with yours. I still haven't gotten mine on the road yet...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
we were at junkyards, as I said - we found 3 cars that had 400s, but they were already pulled out of the cars.. '80 was the cut off for trucks, and we seem to be finding nothing but c20s in the yards this weekend. Everything from diesel 350s to 6.7L diesels and up to 327v8's but no 400s. It's highly frustrating to come home empty-ya know?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Gave the old girl a bath today. My daughter and I are taking her to the Waterdown Car Show and Swap Meet tomorrow. She doesn't know it yet but I am going to let her drive it tomorrow too!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
My son and I cleaned up the rot from the core support. I think we can save it by welding in a new bottom piece I will have a friend fab up.
The truck obviously went through a flood at some point. I sure wish I had not been so excited when I bought it and looked more carefully. Oh well, it just means more father son time fixing all the bad spots! If this part goes well, then I have one bad spot on the driver side inner fender to patch up and we can start priming and painting the support, inner fenders and hinges. Those will get stored while we move on to more patching. Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I also discovered the flood surprise after I bought the 1975 front suspension for my truck. It took several hours to get all the mud and rocks out of the crossmember, and the spindles and hubs were ruined.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Actually not today but last weekend May 18th & 19th We took our truck to the Petaluma CA. American Grafitti Tribute show & cruise. The movie American Grafitti was supposed to take place in Modesto CA where George Lucas grew up but the filming actually took place in Petaluma CA. Next year will be the 40th anniversery of American Grafitti. Do I feel old, I saw the movie when it first came out in the theaters. Also while stopped at a vintage gas station in Cotati for a photo op it looks like Yoda hopped in our truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I love that last photo. Great picture and a cool pose of the pooch. The thinking process going on is very expressive. And what an interesting photo location, almost like a full size model car diorama with the "shallow profile" gas pumps!
