Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thanks. It's starting to come along much better. Bed sides are final primed. Couldn't grab a pic of them, but they came out real nice and straight.. Onward and upward!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I got my carb back after it had a leak. It ran fine for a bit, then started leaking again. I sat down with Dr. Google and, in 20 minutes, had it fixed!

Opened the door, looked in, shut the door.
Opened the hood, groaned in pain looking at the broken motor, shut the hood, walked away.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Nice that it only took 20 minutes and not 20 hours or 20 days!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I bought a new neutral safety switch and wired it in (splices in the purple wire from switch) and it works like it should. It will only start in park and neutral. My back-up lights also work great now with new switch. Old one was defective, a lot of the guts fell out of it when I removed it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally got to work on my Suburban again. Re worked the front air bag mounts, removed all of the old drum brake stuff(front and rear) Mocked up the rotors and cut the cardboard templates for the caliper brackets. Also mocked up the brake booster/master cyl mount under the floor. overall pretty productive day!

I didn't do anything today, but Fri. I'll (with any luck) be wet sanding the Cab and roof with a 500 grit final for paint..... It's all in the prep.... Right!?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
65zac...... Don't wait! Get your windshield out quick. If the rust's not too terrible you "may" be able to sand (or grind) it off. Kinda hard from the pic to tell depth. But if you can get the rust stopped, you should be able to fill/bondo it up good a new......
IF the rust hasn't gone too far..... Fingers crossed for you! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Rust on the inside above the windshield means the rain gutter on the top of the cab in front is leaking.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Cut up a good set of inner fenders and then bolted on the front end to see if it fits...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I found the right master cylinder, with the shallow rod dimple, for power drum/drum and got it mounted up using CaptainFab's bracket. I ended up cutting and welding the original brake push rod and the booster rod; too cheap to buy the adjustable rod from Speedway. Now I just need to wait for my brake line kit to arrive. I'll eventually go disc up front, but I'm not ready for the drop spindles and wanted to go power now.
Thanks to CaptainFab, Jocko, Chief Rocka and everyone that's done this before me and given me the insight to take it on myself.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
First test run with new hood opening setup. Works as hoped, balance is good. New hinges are being made from aluminum for final, but for now,I am happy. Also got the Master cyl/booster mount DONE on the frame, waiting for rod ands to make the pushrod, then that is off the list. Ordered rotors for disc conversion, and having my brackets cut at the welding shop tomorrow. Hopefully will get the body off this weekend and start finishing the chassis,

MisterC, what MC/booster application did you end up going with? Looks like my 68' Vette unit.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I grabbed a booster from a 91 Suburban from the local Pick n Pull. Master is for a 70 Buick Estate Wagon

Ha ha, I learned to drive on a Buick Estate wagon...felt like Clark Griswold in Vacation with the queen sized family truckster. We even had the fake wood panels!
