Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Installed exhaust manifolds. Thanks for all the info guys! I got them installed last night. Decided to go without gaskets and see what the results are. Both surfaces are clean and straight so I think it should be ok. Let her run for about 30 minutes last night and didn't notice/find any leaks.
Thanks again for everyone's advice!!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the bed mounted and the bedsides cut. Raised the bed 1 1/2" so the bottom of the step is even with the cab, instead of hanging lower. Not sure if now lowering the rear to the same ride height with less air in the bag will be a worse ride out back.

Called the speed shop again and the new part numbers did not come yet, they said they would call me right back, that was three days ago. I would like to try them out but thought about going to stock manifolds and having them coated. Soaked and pulled apart my Pass side ram horn and it turns out to be 1-7/8" and the Driver's is 2", sooo that's on hold until I can try to pick up another manifold at Monroe next weekend. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Yeah,. Me, too.
What you really need jc70, is a couple of Buds to come around Vallejo (where I'm thinking it's probably pretty much cooler than the 100.8 degrees here today), climb under with some wrenches and do some bench racing while we pull that puppy. You have the 454 that need bearings. I have leaks. Then again, I just found out my brother has stage IV throat cancer. Puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Put the call out for some wrenches. If it's during the end of next week, I'm only about three and a half hours from you. Bet there's some other folks that that are close enough and would like to get dirty and then get to go home.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I drove it for awhile today then took the hood loose again to mess with the gaps. I just couldn't get them any better than these pictures. I installed rebuilt hinges and did a few adjustments when I installed them. Then again today to try and get the drivers side better but it just ant going to happen I guess. I took it loose a bunch and did what I thought would even it up. It either wouldn't shut are it would hit the fenders.
I know these trucks weren't the best body lines for straightness so I'll live with it. The back of the hood sits down now like it should though!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Looks to me if the hole front was shifted over you could get your gaps even.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Are you saying take the core support loose and it may straighten up. I put the new grille in it when I had it painted so the front could be off.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Yes IMO the front is out of square and needs to be shifted to the drives side so each side of the hood can get the same gaps.
I would guess if you loosed all the front bolts you could shift the front over to fix that. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Went to my shop and dropped my 70 stepper of the life & gave her a bath and a small detail job and took her and my wifie to a local cruise night. Lots of great rides here in Camarillo old town. Cheers, Pat

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well took my truck for a run yesterday but the big block was a bit cold and I almost stalled it so sidestepped the clutch a bit and turned at the same time while shooting out a tooth from the side spider gears right thu the rear cover so brought it home and gutted the rear diff. Now I need some info guy's in the know. I have a crappy 73 and up gov. lock posi unit, could put new spiders in but is it worth it, heard they are the "worst" GM diff. Will an Eaton or Auburn posi unit swap in place in the same diff housing (12 bolt). Here are a few pic's. Too much power and tire combo.Haha.
So anyone in the know on the swap. |
