While pigment was a no cost option, it was still an option. You had to specify that you wanted it to be red (or whatever) in order to get it, otherwise, it came in the base color.
I guess they stretch the word option, because a no option truck would be one that had nothing that cost extra on it. A base truck would be a short bed Stepside 6cyl with all other models optional, technically. 4wd,V8,and Fleetside are technically options, but GM made them their own model. So,there are several base trucks. The reason the gov't bought Stepsides is because they had to go with the lowest bid and that's a big reason Stepsides were continued to be offered. I have '71 Chevy dealer paperwork and there is no mention of a base color. I wonder why you see Fawn listed on '68 SPIDs. I'd like to see a SPID with no options, including color listed. It may exist in books but I doubt in the real world. Her's a '67 GMC SPID with no paint color listed but Fawn is the interior trim color:

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

i'll agree on what the books say verses reality.
I have also noticed fawn listed like you described... what I was reading could have been GMC only, but I think it was just book verses reality.

Here's someones interesting 67 short bed 6 cylinder that looks pretty original.

Is this the fawn color on the door panel that would be the "standard" color ?

The SPID that I posted is from a panel that only had a driver's seat.

In a base '67 truck the interior paint didn't match the exterior,as in years prior. They were either Fawn or that silver/grey according to exterior color and the vinyl matched interior paint color.

Re: Trucks with the shortest list of options?

that's a SPID with no options.
The heater was kinda interesting. It was a standard equipment item, but if you didn't specify it, then you got a heater delete, and you were credited the cost towards the selling price. (again, GMC info)

Just stumbled across this old thread looking for cost of options...

Tim, that SPID looks familiar It does have the paint color listed, look at it again. Its coded for teal, which the truck was. I've found traces of teal poking out under the repaint.

The one Steve Hafner posted has a paint code listed as well

With all of the data on this SPID, I'm with Special-K about it being a COPO vehicle. My bet is that it was either USAF or USN, with the blue vinyl being listed. I didn't notice a paint color. Here's a "truck" that I drove in VietNam. I wish I could see the ID tag on the cowl. I just didn't have the presence of mind to take a pic of it, too.

Here's mine, pretty sparse for a Cheyenne, stepside no less
Special K, I have seen quite a few 67's with blue interior paint, mostly on white trucks.

My truck had blue vinyl trim and a dark green visor. I thought that perhaps a PO had stuck the visor in there. Maybe it was a option on my truck
