Re: Junkyard pics

And a picture of my "junk". It is my daily driver. I have driven this for the last 13 or so years and has only let my down a few times.

The worst time was a "lost" a wheel bearing on Loop 820 in Fort Worth on Thanksgiving day many, many years ago. Thankfully the spindle nut and washer held the front tire on. The hub was completely wollered out. I had to get towed back to Denton and it cost me $125.00. (At least I got to ride in the tow truck.)

Enjoy!

Re: Junkyard pics

Seen the thread "Junkyard pics" and thought of this one from 2009. Original owner passed on, truck was parked in a back yard for six years and then this poor old truck was sold for and stripped of its heart (396 Bbc) and then set out to be crushed by some camaro/chevelle guy. Mel

I've lived in Denton all my life and driven by that place millions of times and never stopped to look. When it warms up I'll have to go check it out.

Most of the junk yard trucks look better than the one I drive.

Re: Junkyard pics

I didn't realize so many on this forum lived in and around Denton. We should all get together sometime. I am part owner of the Sonic Drive In on Ft Worth Dr. Swing by and hollar at me. My 69 long bed is always there, hugger orange, can't miss it. It would be awesome to have a bunch of our trucks there to hang out.

Re: Junkyard pics

Sad thing a lot of old cars and trucks are being sold for scrap metal and crushed. I see many 18 wheelers loaded down with cars and trucks from the 60s, 70s, and 80s rolling down the interstate towards Dallas, Texas from Oklahoma and beyond. The flattened cars/ trucks are sent to a place where they have a shredder. It doesn't appear that the take any parts off either.

I sometimes wonder how many "rare" parts have been sent to the shredder.

I talked to a guy that works at a recycling yard in Gainseville, Texas and he recently paid $350 for a 1965 long bed step side. He said that is the roughly the going rate for scrap metal per ton. I told him I really wanted a 60-66 chevy really bad. He said that sadly they won't hold any for anybody. You just have to be there at the right time. They will sell the entire vehicle for the scrap value.

Re: Junkyard pics

These are from another junk yard in Denton. The 1967 GMC is complete but is from Georgia and has ALOT of rust through. Supposedly ran 15 years ago. I have thought about buying it and getting it running/ driving and putting it back on the road. I think it is a neat old truck that deserves better.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing!

Here's a photo album of Elwood's Junkyard, near me. There are not my pics, and the guy who tooks these was focused on AMCs, but you can see a couple of our trucks in the pics.

Re: Junkyard pics

If you get the chance and have the ability to give this one life again, please do! I had a
'67 GMC 3/4 ton when I was in the Air Force. It had the 327 engine and the PO had changed it from a 3 speed to a TH400 auto. It was a fantastic truck. What engine does this one have?

Surprised you guys don't have any type of meet organized already.
I use to go to weekly meets organized by the local Mazda forum. Quite a blast!
I'd be game for a get together. I'm in Krum.

Re: Junkyard pics

I have driven by the auto ranch once or twice before when in Dallas but never stopped in; mainly because I assumed the prices would be on the high side.
